Amit Shah to Lead Key BJP Meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to chair the BJP legislature party meeting in Kolkata, where newly elected MLAs will take part in discussions over the leadership choice. The decision is expected to formally determine who will lead the party’s first government in West Bengal.

The BJP’s central leadership is closely monitoring the process as the party prepares for a significant political transition in the state. Party insiders believe the leadership announcement could come soon after the meeting concludes.

Assembly Officially Dissolved

The political process gained momentum after the official dissolution of the 17th West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The Governor issued a formal notification ending the Assembly’s term on May 7, clearing the constitutional path for the formation of a new government.

The conclusion of the previous administration’s tenure marks a major turning point in the state’s political history. With the Assembly no longer in existence, the focus has now shifted entirely toward the formation of the incoming government.

Mamata Banerjee Retains Chief Minister Title Online

Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has continued using the designation “Chief Minister of West Bengal” across her social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and X. The development has attracted public and political attention amid the ongoing transition period.

While the formal constitutional process has moved ahead with the Assembly’s dissolution, Banerjee’s online profiles still identify her as the serving Chief Minister.

Constituency Results Draw Political Attention

Several Assembly constituencies witnessed closely watched electoral shifts during the election process. Data linked to voter roll deletions and victory margins has become a topic of discussion in political circles following the BJP’s performance across the state.

The BJP managed to retain all 77 seats it had secured in the 2021 Assembly elections while also registering gains in many new constituencies. A significant number of these victories reportedly came in seats where deleted voter entries exceeded the final winning margins.

High-Profile Defeats in Key Areas

In Bhabanipur, a constituency long associated with Mamata Banerjee, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari secured victory by more than 15,000 votes. Reports also indicated that voter roll deletions in the constituency were substantially higher than the margin of victory.

Tollyganj also witnessed a notable result, where state minister Aroop Biswas lost the election by a margin of just over 6,000 votes. Jadavpur, once considered a stronghold of Left politics, recorded another BJP gain with a comfortable victory margin.

Meanwhile, the Indus constituency saw one of the closest contests in the election, with the BJP retaining the seat by fewer than 1,000 votes.

Focus Shifts to New Government Formation

With the legislative process now entering its final stage, attention remains firmly on the BJP legislature party’s decision. The upcoming announcement of the party’s legislative leader is expected to formally begin the next phase of governance in West Bengal.

Political observers are closely monitoring developments in Kolkata, where the leadership decision could shape the state’s administrative and political direction for the coming years.
