Cinema – Aamir Khan Reflects on Son Junaid’s Independent Journey in Films

Cinema –  Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has spoken candidly about his decision to stay hands-off when it comes to his son Junaid Khan’s professional choices. In a recent conversation, the veteran star explained that Junaid has deliberately chosen to build his own identity in the film industry without leaning on his father’s influence.

A deliberate distance from professional guidance

Aamir revealed that he has never reviewed Junaid’s scripts or attempted to guide his career decisions. According to him, this distance is not accidental but a conscious choice made by Junaid himself. The young actor prefers to navigate his journey independently, relying on his own learning and experiences.

He shared that Junaid traveled to Los Angeles to study theatre, where he spent two years honing his craft. After completing his training, he continued performing in plays for another year before returning to Mumbai. Rather than stepping directly into films through industry connections, Junaid began working in theatre and attending auditions like any newcomer.

What stood out, Aamir noted, was that Junaid never disclosed his family background during auditions. Casting directors were unaware of his lineage, and Aamir also chose not to intervene or inform anyone. This approach allowed Junaid to be evaluated purely on merit.

Learning about his son’s debut like an outsider

Aamir admitted that he was not even aware of Junaid’s first major film project until he received a call from filmmaker Aditya Chopra. It was during this conversation that he learned Junaid had been cast in the film Maharaj. The revelation came as a surprise, highlighting how little involvement Aamir had in shaping his son’s early career.

Reflecting on this moment, Aamir said he felt proud of Junaid’s efforts. He emphasized that his son has built his path entirely on his own terms, without seeking support or leveraging his father’s stature in the industry.

A personal bond beyond professional boundaries

While Aamir maintains a professional distance, he spoke warmly about his close relationship with his children. He described how he often expresses affection through simple gestures, such as hugging his kids at home.

He mentioned that even as Junaid has grown into an adult, those moments remain special. Despite the physical change from childhood to adulthood, Aamir said these gestures continue to bring him a sense of peace and emotional connection.

Junaid’s recent work and collaborations

Junaid Khan has recently appeared alongside Sai Pallavi in the film Ek Din, which has been released in cinemas. The project also marks a reunion between Aamir Khan and filmmaker Mansoor Khan, adding a layer of familiarity to the production.

The film is backed by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Sunil Pandey. It has been produced by Aamir Khan, Mansoor Khan, and Aparna Purohit. With its theatrical release underway, the film represents another step in Junaid’s growing career.

Building a career on individual merit

Aamir’s remarks underline a broader perspective on parenting within the film industry. By allowing Junaid to face challenges independently, he has encouraged self-reliance and personal growth. The approach reflects a belief that long-term success is better achieved through individual effort rather than inherited advantage.

As Junaid continues to take on new roles, his journey is being closely observed as an example of how new talent can emerge within established film families while still maintaining independence.
