Politics – Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow after he lost consciousness on Friday evening, party officials confirmed. According to leaders within the party, the incident was linked to a drop in sodium levels, and he is currently in stable condition under medical supervision.
Sudden Collapse at Residence
Ajay Rai reportedly fainted at his residence in Lucknow following a day filled with political engagements. Party spokesperson Anshu Awasthi stated that Rai had been actively participating in multiple organisational activities throughout the day and had also visited the airport before returning home. Shortly after, he lost consciousness, prompting immediate concern among those present.
He was taken to Medanta Hospital around 6 pm, where doctors admitted him for urgent medical attention. The swift response ensured that his condition was stabilised without delay.
Medical Assessment and Treatment
Doctors attending to Rai confirmed that the primary cause of his collapse was low sodium levels, a condition medically known as hyponatremia. In addition, he was found to have elevated blood pressure at the time of admission.
Hospital director Dr Rakesh Kapoor explained that Rai was brought to the emergency department soon after the incident. A detailed medical evaluation was conducted, and treatment was initiated promptly to address both the electrolyte imbalance and blood pressure concerns.
Following initial care, doctors reported significant improvement in his condition. He is now conscious, able to communicate, and responding well to treatment.
