Defence – Indigenous Innovation Gains Spotlight at Nagpur Honour Ceremony
Defence – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday underscored India’s rising strength in defence production, noting that homegrown enterprises are now building advanced technologies capable of competing with leading global systems. He was addressing attendees at the Nag Bhushan award ceremony held in Nagpur, where notable contributors from the region were recognised for their achievements.
Recognition of Local Talent on a National Stage
The event, organised by the Nag Bhushan Foundation, celebrated individuals who have brought distinction to Nagpur at both national and international levels. Fadnavis described the occasion as a moment of pride, highlighting how local achievers are helping elevate the city’s reputation far beyond its geographical boundaries.
He pointed out that such recognition not only honours individual success but also reflects the broader potential of emerging talent from smaller cities, which are increasingly contributing to India’s global image.
Journey of a Defence Entrepreneur
A key focus of the ceremony was the work of Satyanarayan Nuwal, founder of Solar Group, whose entry into the defence sector was once considered unlikely. Fadnavis recalled that earlier policy frameworks and strong import dependencies had made it difficult for private players to participate in defence manufacturing.
Over time, however, policy changes opened new opportunities. Nuwal gradually established his presence by obtaining licences and expanding operations. The Chief Minister credited initiatives such as the Make in India programme for encouraging domestic production and enabling entrepreneurs to scale up their efforts.
Growing Capabilities in Indigenous Technology
Fadnavis emphasised that Indian companies are now capable of developing sophisticated defence systems that can stand alongside global innovations. He suggested that ongoing work in areas such as advanced weapon systems could position India as a key player in future defence technologies.
According to him, liberalisation in the sector has allowed innovators to explore new possibilities, resulting in products that could potentially set new benchmarks in the industry.

The ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Bhagwat presented the awards to Satyanarayan Nuwal and young athlete Daksh Khante, who received the Yuva Nag Bhushan Puraskar 2025.
In his remarks, Bhagwat highlighted the importance of perseverance, noting that success often comes from sustained effort and dedication. He said that the achievements of the awardees serve as an inspiration, encouraging others to pursue excellence despite challenges.
