FireIncident – A late-night fire at a scrap storage facility in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district claimed the lives of four individuals, including two minor girls, according to police officials. The incident occurred in the Neemrana area on Friday and has raised serious concerns about safety practices in small-scale industrial units. Authorities confirmed that the victims died after being trapped inside the premises as flames spread rapidly.
Victims Identified as Local Workers and Visitor
Police have identified the deceased as Kavita, aged 15, her seven-year-old relative, a driver named Ravindutt Yadav, and Johnny, who was employed at the warehouse to operate a plastic processing machine. Their bodies were recovered in a severely burned condition and later sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary findings suggest that Ravindutt Yadav had arrived from Haryana to purchase plastic scrap material. At the time of the incident, Kavita was reportedly engaged in sorting discarded perfume bottles and removing their caps as part of routine work at the facility.
Suspected Cause Linked to Ignition of Flammable Material
Investigators believe the fire may have started due to a lit bidi allegedly discarded by the visiting driver. Officials suspect that the bidi came into contact with highly flammable spirit residues present in the perfume bottles, leading to an immediate ignition. The fire spread quickly through the scrap materials, many of which are known to be combustible.
The rapid escalation of flames left little time for those inside to react. Police stated that the victims attempted to escape but moved toward a section of the warehouse that had no exit route.
Victims Trapped as Fire Blocks Exit Path
As the blaze intensified, the individuals reportedly ran toward one side of the godown but encountered a wall, which prevented their escape. Trapped within the enclosed space, they succumbed to suffocation caused by smoke inhalation before the fire engulfed them. Their bodies were later found charred at the site.
Officials noted that the layout of the warehouse and lack of proper emergency exits contributed significantly to the severity of the tragedy.
One Worker Escapes With Injuries
A woman working at the facility managed to escape the fire but sustained injuries to her leg while fleeing. She was provided medical attention and is currently reported to be out of danger. Her statement is expected to play a key role in reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the fire.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the incident. An associate of the warehouse owner has been detained for questioning, while the owner, identified as Karan Singh, is currently absconding. Police have registered a case and are examining possible violations of safety regulations and negligence.
Superintendent of Police Satvir Singh stated that further details would emerge following forensic analysis and witness statements. Officials are also assessing whether the facility complied with fire safety norms and storage guidelines for hazardous materials.

The incident has once again brought attention to the risks associated with poorly regulated scrap and recycling units, where flammable materials are often handled without adequate precautions.
