Investigation Reveals Multiple Suspected Theft Attempts

Officials examining surveillance footage during the ongoing investigation have identified around 70 suspected attempts to steal donations from the Ram Temple between April 27 and June 5, according to sources familiar with the inquiry. The footage reportedly shows an individual identified as Manish Kumar Yadav attempting to access donation collections on multiple occasions. Despite these repeated incidents, no immediate action was reportedly taken against him during that period.

Audit and Counting Process Under Scrutiny

The Special Investigating Team (SIT), which is leading the probe, has also focused on the procedures followed while handling and counting donations. Investigators reviewed internal audit reports covering the financial years 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25. These reports reportedly highlighted several shortcomings in financial procedures and administrative practices.

According to sources, the investigation found that documentation related to donation handling was incomplete and record-keeping standards were inadequate. The review also pointed to a weak internal control mechanism, making it difficult to ensure proper oversight during the collection and counting process. In addition, investigators noted that supervisory responsibilities were not clearly defined, creating uncertainty over accountability at different levels of management.

Eight Arrested as Probe Continues

The investigation has already resulted in the arrest of eight individuals. Among those taken into custody is Ramashankar Yadav, also known as Tinnu Yadav, who is considered a close associate of Champat Rai. The other arrested individuals include Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Lav Kush Mishra, Rama Shankar Mishra, and Subhash Srivastava.

Sources indicated that the SIT is continuing its inquiry and may recommend further arrests if additional evidence establishes the involvement of more individuals in the alleged irregularities.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Assures Firm Action

Responding to the developments, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible. Speaking at a public event in Deoria, he said the state government was committed to ensuring that those involved in wrongdoing would face legal consequences.

The Chief Minister also criticised opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, accusing them of attempting to politicise the issue. He said matters connected to Ayodhya should be handled with responsibility because of the city’s religious significance.

Reiterating the government’s position, Adityanath said the SIT had been constituted to conduct an independent inquiry and that action began immediately after the investigation report was received. He added that the administration remains committed to distinguishing verified facts from allegations and ensuring that the investigation proceeds according to the law.

The investigation into the alleged embezzlement of temple donations remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine financial records, surveillance evidence, and administrative procedures as they seek to determine the full extent of the suspected irregularities.
