Politics – Mamata Banerjee Confident of Fourth Term, Targets BJP Ahead of Polls

Politics –  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday expressed strong confidence in her party’s electoral prospects, stating that the Trinamool Congress is poised to secure a fourth consecutive term in power. Addressing a public gathering, she asserted that there is little public support for the Bharatiya Janata Party forming a government in the state.

Call for Opposition Unity Against Central Government

Speaking at a rally in Haldia, located in Purba Medinipur district, Banerjee also made a broader political appeal, urging opposition parties across the country to unite against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre. She indicated that a collective effort would be necessary to challenge the ruling alliance in the upcoming national political landscape, adding that such unity could reshape the balance of power in New Delhi.

Counterattack on Allegations by BJP

Banerjee strongly criticised the BJP over its allegations of financial irregularities during the TMC’s tenure. Referring to the party’s “chargesheet” against her government, she responded by leveling counter-allegations. According to her, irregular practices and commission-based dealings have taken place in key industrial zones, including the Haldia dock complex and surrounding areas.

She also highlighted ongoing development efforts within the state, pointing to the establishment of new industries and improvements in healthcare infrastructure as examples of her government’s work.

Concerns Over Election Arrangements

At another rally held in Jagaddal in North 24-Parganas, the Chief Minister raised concerns about the scale of central force deployment for the elections. She remarked that she had not previously witnessed such extensive arrangements, including the presence of observers and officials from outside the state.

Her comments suggested apprehension about the nature of election management and its potential impact on local dynamics.

Criticism of Restrictions on Daily Mobility

During a separate address in Jorasanko, north Kolkata, Banerjee took issue with certain election-related restrictions imposed by authorities. She questioned the practicality of limiting motorcycle usage ahead of polling days, arguing that such measures could disrupt the daily routines of ordinary citizens, especially those commuting for work.

Abhishek Banerjee Targets BJP’s Track Record

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also addressed a rally in Bankura, where he criticised the BJP for what he described as unfulfilled promises. He questioned the credibility of the party in delivering welfare measures, stating that failure to meet basic commitments raises doubts about future assurances.

Abhishek Banerjee reiterated that the welfare schemes introduced by the current state government would continue without interruption, emphasizing their role in supporting various sections of society.

Political Climate Intensifies Ahead of Elections

The remarks from both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee come at a time when political activity in West Bengal is intensifying ahead of elections. Public rallies, policy debates, and allegations between rival parties are shaping the narrative as each side seeks to strengthen its position among voters.

The coming months are expected to witness further campaigning and strategic moves, with both state and national implications tied to the outcome.
