Census – Chhattisgarh to Begin First Phase of 2027 Population Survey in May
Census – The first stage of India’s 2027 Census is set to begin in Chhattisgarh from May 1, marking the start of a month-long exercise aimed at compiling detailed information on housing conditions and infrastructure across the state.

House Listing and Housing Survey to Cover Entire State
The upcoming phase, scheduled to continue until May 30, will focus on house listing and a comprehensive housing census. During this period, officials will collect data on all types of structures, including residential and commercial properties. The survey will assess building conditions, usage patterns, and access to essential facilities such as water, electricity, and sanitation.
Authorities have emphasized that the exercise is a crucial step in building a reliable national database, which will later support policy planning and resource allocation. Enumerators will visit households to gather accurate and updated information directly from residents.
Introduction of Self-Enumeration Under Digital Push
In a significant shift, the government is introducing a self-enumeration feature for the first time as part of the Digital India programme. This option will allow families to submit their details independently through a digital platform, reducing the need for physical interaction.
Households choosing this method will receive a unique identification number to complete the process. Officials believe this approach will not only improve convenience for citizens but also enhance data accuracy and efficiency. Enumerators will still verify information where necessary to ensure reliability.
AI-Powered Assistant Deployed in Industrial Operations
Alongside census developments, Chhattisgarh has also witnessed the deployment of advanced technology in the industrial sector. Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), based in Korba, has introduced an AI-driven humanoid assistant named ALAISA (Aluminium AI Support Agent).
This system has been designed to support workers on the shop floor by providing real-time guidance and improving operational workflows. By combining conversational artificial intelligence with plant-specific knowledge, ALAISA assists employees in following standard operating procedures more effectively.
Company officials state that the initiative is expected to boost productivity while also enhancing safety standards within the aluminium manufacturing environment. The integration of such digital tools reflects a broader effort to modernize industrial processes through innovation.
Digital Lottery System Ensures Fair RTE Admissions
In the education sector, the state has reported progress in implementing transparent admission processes under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This year, 14,403 children secured seats in private schools through a fully digital lottery system.
Out of 38,439 applications received, 27,203 were deemed eligible after verification. The final selection was conducted online, ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for all applicants. Officials highlighted that the use of digital systems from application submission to document verification has significantly reduced discrepancies.
Currently, more than 3.63 lakh students across the state are benefiting from the RTE scheme, which aims to provide access to quality education for children from economically weaker sections.
Technology-Driven Governance Gains Momentum
The developments across census operations, industrial innovation, and education reforms underline a growing reliance on digital solutions in governance. From enabling self-enumeration in nationwide surveys to ensuring transparency in school admissions, technology is playing a central role in improving efficiency and accountability.
As Chhattisgarh prepares for the census exercise, authorities remain focused on leveraging modern tools to streamline processes and deliver better outcomes for citizens.
