Elections – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underlined the growing contribution of young people in building the nation, noting that India’s youth are actively working toward a stronger and more prosperous future. He stressed that the country’s long-standing traditions and cultural values have always emphasized the importance of knowledge and its meaningful application as the backbone of national progress.
Emphasis on Knowledge and Cultural Values
In a message shared on social media, the Prime Minister reflected on the deeper role of education and awareness in society. He highlighted that true knowledge is not limited to information alone but lies in its thoughtful use for the greater good. According to him, this philosophy has been passed down through generations and continues to guide the country’s development path. He added that young citizens today are embracing these principles and contributing significantly to India’s growth story.

Appeal for Voter Participation
The Prime Minister’s comments came at a time when polling began in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry for their respective Assembly elections. He urged citizens, particularly young voters and women, to participate actively in the democratic process. Encouraging higher turnout, he described elections as an important civic duty and a celebration of democracy.
In separate messages addressing voters in each region, he called on people to step out in large numbers and exercise their right to vote. He emphasized that enthusiastic participation not only strengthens democracy but also reflects a sense of collective responsibility.
Voting Across Key States and Union Territory
Polling is currently underway across three regions, each witnessing significant electoral activity. In Kerala, more than 2.6 crore registered voters are casting their ballots to decide the fate of 883 candidates contesting in 140 constituencies. The election is seen as a closely watched contest involving major political alliances, including the ruling Left Democratic Front, the Congress-led United Democratic Front, and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance.
Assam is also witnessing large-scale participation, with over 2.5 crore eligible voters deciding among 722 candidates contesting across 126 Assembly seats. The state’s election is considered crucial in shaping the political landscape of the region.
Meanwhile, in Puducherry, more than 10 lakh voters are participating in the electoral process to choose representatives for the 30-member Legislative Assembly. The Union Territory’s election, though smaller in scale, holds importance due to its unique political dynamics.
Counting Date and Democratic Significance
The counting of votes for all three regions is scheduled to take place on May 4. The results are expected to determine the political direction in these areas for the coming years.
