Crime – Police in Kushinagar have taken into custody the primary suspect linked to a recent shooting incident in the Kaptanganj area following an early morning exchange of fire on Wednesday. Officials confirmed that the accused was apprehended after he allegedly opened fire on a police team during a routine checking operation.
Police Launch Search Operation After Recent Shootings
Authorities initiated a special checking drive in response to two separate shooting incidents reported within the jurisdiction of Kaptanganj police station earlier this week. According to Circle Officer Kundan Kumar Singh, multiple teams were deployed across key routes and sensitive areas to identify and intercept suspects believed to be involved in the incidents.

During the checking drive, police personnel noticed a motorcycle and attempted to stop it for inspection. However, the rider reportedly ignored the signal and tried to flee the spot. As officers pursued the vehicle, the rider allegedly opened fire at the police team.
In response, the police retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, the rider sustained a bullet injury to his leg, which caused him to lose control of the motorcycle and fall. The swift action by the police ensured that the situation did not escalate further.
Accused Identified as Key Suspect
The injured individual was later identified as Aditya Sahni, who, according to officials, is the main आरोपी in the recent shooting incidents under investigation. After being overpowered, he was taken into custody and provided medical treatment for his injuries.
Police officials confirmed that Sahni’s role in the earlier shootings had already been established during preliminary investigations. His arrest is expected to provide significant leads in understanding the motive behind the attacks and identifying any possible accomplices.
Second Suspect Escapes From Scene
While the police managed to apprehend Sahni, the person riding pillion on the motorcycle succeeded in escaping during the encounter. Authorities have launched a search operation to trace and arrest the absconding individual.
