Cinema – Jisshu Sengupta Reflects on Unplanned Journey to Acting Career
Cinema – Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta has shared that films—whether in Hindi or Bengali—played little role in shaping his early interests, even though he grew up in a family connected to theatre. Speaking about his childhood, he explained that acting was never something he actively pursued during his formative years.
Early Life Focused on Sports and Music
Jisshu revealed that his father was a theatre actor, but his mother believed that one performer in the family was enough. As a result, there was no strong encouragement for him to step into acting. Instead, his interests leaned heavily toward sports and music.
He recalled being an active cricketer during his younger days and even representing Bengal at the Under-19 level. Alongside cricket, he developed a deep passion for music, particularly drumming. Music continues to remain an important part of his life, as he still performs with his band.
He admitted that academics were never his primary focus, and his time was largely spent on the cricket field or behind a drum set rather than in classrooms.
Entry into Acting Happened Unexpectedly
Despite his lack of initial interest in acting, Jisshu eventually found his way into the entertainment industry. He described his entry as something that happened naturally rather than through deliberate planning.
Over time, what began as an unexpected career choice evolved into a long and successful journey. The actor noted that he is now approaching three decades in the industry, a milestone that reflects his consistency and adaptability over the years.
Rise in Bengali Cinema

Jisshu Sengupta is now preparing for the release of his upcoming film Bhoot Bangla. The project features a multi-star cast including Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and veteran actor Asrani.
The film, which was initially planned for an earlier release, is now scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 17. With a mix of established stars and experienced performers, the project is expected to draw attention from audiences across different regions.
