Diplomacy – India’s involvement in the unfolding tensions in West Asia has drawn appreciation from the United Arab Emirates, with its ambassador to India highlighting New Delhi’s growing diplomatic influence and consistent engagement in the region. The envoy noted that India’s balanced approach and long-standing relationships across West Asia have strengthened its position as a credible voice during the ongoing conflict.

Strong Bilateral Ties Reflected in Leadership Outreach

The ambassador pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s early outreach to the UAE leadership following the outbreak of hostilities as a meaningful step. According to him, the phone call to the UAE President was seen as a gesture rooted in mutual trust and long-standing cooperation. Over the years, both leaders have built a close partnership, and this direct communication reaffirmed the depth of ties between the two nations.

He emphasized that such interactions go beyond formal diplomacy, reflecting a sense of solidarity at a time of heightened uncertainty in the region.

India’s Support at the United Nations

India’s participation in international efforts to address the crisis was also underlined. By co-sponsoring a United Nations Security Council resolution backed by a large number of countries, India aligned itself with a global call to uphold sovereignty and protect civilian lives.

The resolution, according to the ambassador, sends a clear signal that deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure and national territories are unacceptable. India’s endorsement added weight to the initiative, given its reputation for maintaining constructive and balanced diplomatic relations.

Rising Security Concerns in the Gulf Region

Addressing the current situation, the envoy described a series of attacks targeting the UAE and neighboring countries. He stated that since late February, the region has faced repeated strikes involving missiles and drones. These attacks, he noted, have not been limited to countries directly involved in conflict but have also affected those striving to maintain stability.

The scale of these incidents has raised serious concerns, particularly because civilian areas and critical infrastructure have been impacted. According to the ambassador, such actions represent a significant escalation and pose risks to regional peace.

UAE’s Measured Response and Defense Preparedness

Despite the challenging circumstances, the UAE has maintained a restrained approach. The ambassador explained that the country has opted for a calculated and strategic response, avoiding actions that could further intensify the situation.

At the same time, he reaffirmed that the UAE retains its right to defend its sovereignty under international law. He noted that the country’s armed forces have demonstrated a high level of readiness, successfully intercepting threats and ensuring the protection of its airspace.

He also highlighted that national systems and essential services continue to function smoothly, indicating that the situation remains under control despite external pressures.

Civilian Safety and Infrastructure Under Threat

The envoy expressed concern over attacks directed at civilian locations, including residential areas and key infrastructure such as airports and energy facilities. These incidents have resulted in casualties and damage, raising humanitarian and legal concerns.

He described such actions as unacceptable and inconsistent with international norms, stressing the importance of safeguarding civilian lives during conflicts.

Continued Emphasis on Diplomatic Solutions

While acknowledging the seriousness of the situation, the ambassador reiterated that diplomacy remains the preferred path forward for the UAE. However, he pointed out that meaningful dialogue requires mutual commitment.

He stressed that calls for peace must be accompanied by actions that support de-escalation. Attacks on civilian and economic assets, he said, undermine the credibility of such claims.

The UAE, he added, remains firm in its commitment to protecting its territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all those living within its borders.

Stability Maintained Despite Ongoing Challenges

Concluding his remarks, the ambassador noted that daily life in the UAE continues without disruption. Government institutions and critical sectors are operating at full capacity, reflecting the country’s preparedness to handle the evolving situation.

He reaffirmed that the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors remains a top priority and will not be compromised under any circumstances.
