Politics – The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday accused members of the Aam Aadmi Party of creating unrest in Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar area during a dispute related to development work. According to BJP leaders, the confrontation occurred when AAP councillors and party workers allegedly attempted to claim responsibility for a civic project in the locality.
Allegations of Disruption in Rajendra Nagar
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated that party representatives and supporters from the Aam Aadmi Party gathered in Rajendra Nagar and caused a disturbance while asserting that the development project had been carried out under their leadership. Kapoor alleged that the situation escalated into a commotion during which one AAP worker reportedly slipped and sustained injuries.
Kapoor said the incident unfolded as BJP representatives were highlighting the completion of the work, which they claim was facilitated by the party’s local leadership earlier this year.
Questions Raised Over Incomplete Work in 2024
The BJP spokesperson also questioned why the development work in Inderpuri ward had not been completed in the previous year if it had indeed been initiated through funds from an AAP MLA or councillor. Kapoor argued that the timeline of the project raised doubts about the claims being made by AAP representatives.
According to Kapoor, the road in the Inderpuri ward was dug up in 2024 during the tenure of the then Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Rajendra Nagar. The excavation was reportedly carried out to begin development work funded by the Delhi Jal Board. However, Kapoor alleged that the project remained unfinished and the road was not restored, leaving residents to deal with inconvenience for several months.
BJP Leaders Claim Completion of Pending Work
Kapoor further stated that the stalled work was eventually completed in February 2025. He credited the progress to the intervention of BJP leaders, including Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj and newly elected Rajendra Nagar MLA Umang Bajaj.
According to the BJP, these leaders coordinated with officials from the Delhi Jal Board and worked with a private contractor to ensure that the project was finally completed. Kapoor said the efforts were aimed at addressing long-pending civic concerns raised by residents of the area.
