FireSafety – Two people died and several residents were rescued after a major fire swept through a multi-storey residential building in Noida’s Sector 66 on Wednesday. The incident occurred in Mamura village, where thick smoke rapidly spread through the structure, prompting an extensive rescue effort by firefighters and police officials.
Emergency Teams Launch Large-Scale Rescue
Authorities said the fire broke out in a G+4 residential building located within the jurisdiction of the Phase-3 police station. Emergency services responded immediately after receiving the distress call, dispatching seven fire engines along with hydraulic platforms and specialised rescue vehicles to control the flames and evacuate residents.
Joint Commissioner of Police Rajeev Narain said firefighters reached the location quickly and launched simultaneous firefighting and rescue operations. Their priority was to safely evacuate everyone trapped inside the building while preventing the fire from spreading further.
Smoke Spread Through Residential Floors
Officials stated that the building is home to nearly 50 families. The ground floor was being used for vehicle parking, and there was no basement. Investigators believe that dense smoke generated in the parking area quickly travelled upward through the building, exposing occupants on the upper floors to dangerous conditions.
The two victims reportedly suffered severe smoke inhalation. They were rushed to the district hospital for treatment but could not be saved.
Rescue personnel used ladders from a neighbouring building to reach residents stranded on higher floors. Videos from the scene showed firefighters helping people descend safely while others were escorted out through the building after smoke levels were reduced.
Building Evacuated Safely
According to officials, each floor of the residential complex contains multiple two-room apartments occupied by several families. Rescue teams conducted a floor-by-floor search to ensure that no one remained trapped inside before declaring the evacuation complete.
Authorities confirmed that every resident was brought to safety during the operation. Firefighters continued cooling operations after the flames were brought under control to eliminate any remaining risk of re-ignition.
Preliminary Probe Points to EV Charging
Initial findings indicate that the fire may have originated while an electric vehicle was being charged in the ground-floor parking area. Investigators suspect that an electrical spark triggered the blaze before it spread to nearby petrol-powered vehicles, causing the fire to intensify and generate heavy smoke throughout the building.
Officials cautioned that the exact cause has not yet been established. A detailed forensic examination and technical investigation will determine the precise sequence of events leading to the incident.
Police Take Legal Action
Following the incident, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the relevant legal provisions at the Phase-3 police station. Authorities confirmed that the building owner and the leaseholder have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are examining whether safety regulations, fire prevention measures, and building management protocols were properly followed. The inquiry will also assess if any negligence contributed to the loss of life and the rapid spread of smoke inside the residential complex.
Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the investigation, while fire safety experts are expected to inspect the building and submit a detailed report
