Traffic Update – Diveghat Stretch Closed for Blasting Work Monday

Traffic Update – Vehicular movement along a key section of the Alandi–Pandharpur Palkhi Highway will be suspended for two hours on Monday afternoon as authorities carry out road expansion work in the Diveghat area of Pune.

Diveghat traffic blasting closure

Two-Hour Traffic Halt Announced

The Pune Traffic Police have issued a notification stating that all vehicles will be barred from using the Hadapsar to Diveghat lane between 1 pm and 3 pm on February 23. The temporary closure is being enforced to facilitate ongoing infrastructure upgrades along the highway corridor.

Officials clarified that no private or commercial vehicles, including heavy transport carriers, will be allowed to pass through the affected stretch during the specified period. Commuters are advised to reschedule travel plans accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Blasting Work Part of Highway Widening Project

The road expansion is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India as part of its broader effort to enhance connectivity and improve traffic flow on the Alandi–Pandharpur Palkhi Highway. The Diveghat section, which passes through a hilly terrain, requires controlled blasting of hard rock formations to enable widening work.

Authorities said the use of controlled explosives is necessary to clear rocky portions safely and efficiently. Given the nature of the operation, traffic movement will be halted to prevent any risk to motorists and ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed.

Diveghat serves as a critical link on the highway, connecting several localities and supporting both daily commuters and long-distance travelers. As a result, even a short closure is expected to impact traffic flow in the surrounding areas.

Police Urge Advance Planning

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav appealed to residents and transport operators to cooperate with the temporary restrictions. He emphasized that the decision to suspend traffic was taken solely with public safety in mind.

Motorists, particularly drivers of heavy vehicles and commercial transport services, have been advised to identify alternate routes before beginning their journey. Traffic personnel will be deployed at key junctions to guide vehicles and prevent congestion in adjoining areas.

Officials have also requested citizens to strictly adhere to traffic instructions issued on the ground and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected corridor during the closure window.

Alternate Routes and Public Cooperation

The Traffic Police Department has circulated details of diversion routes to help ease movement during the two-hour shutdown. While authorities expect the closure to be brief, they caution that traffic may remain slow in nearby zones as vehicles are rerouted.

Commuters are encouraged to monitor local traffic updates and plan departures accordingly. Those traveling toward Diveghat from Hadapsar or using the highway for intercity travel should allow additional time to reach their destinations.

Infrastructure upgrades along major highways often require short-term inconvenience, officials noted, but they are aimed at delivering long-term benefits such as smoother traffic movement and improved road safety standards.

With work scheduled strictly between 1 pm and 3 pm, authorities expect normal traffic conditions to resume shortly after the blasting operation is completed and safety checks are cleared.

Traffic Police have reiterated their appeal for patience and cooperation from the public to ensure that the widening project progresses without incident.
