Weather – Moderate Rain Likely in Western Ghats, State Mostly Dry

Weather –  The Regional Meteorological Centre has indicated that parts of the Western Ghats are set to receive moderate rainfall over the next 48 hours, while much of Tamil Nadu is expected to remain dry under stable atmospheric conditions.

Western ghats moderate rain update

Rainfall Limited to Hilly Districts

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, light to moderate showers are likely at one or two locations along the Western Ghats today and tomorrow. Officials clarified that the rain activity will be confined to isolated pockets, primarily in hill districts and nearby areas.

There is no indication of widespread precipitation across the region. Instead, rainfall is expected to occur in brief spells, affecting select localities rather than extending across entire districts. Authorities have not reported the presence of any major weather system driving large-scale rain over the state at this time.

Dry Spell Across Most of Tamil Nadu

Outside the Western Ghats belt, conditions are forecast to remain largely dry. The weather department stated that most districts of Tamil Nadu, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry and the Karaikal region, are unlikely to see significant rainfall in the coming days.

Meteorologists explained that the absence of strong pressure systems or cyclonic circulations has resulted in relatively steady weather patterns. As a result, skies are expected to remain mostly clear to partly cloudy across several interior and coastal districts.

Southern Districts May See Rain on February 26

Looking ahead, forecasters have projected moderate rainfall over parts of southern Tamil Nadu on February 26. While specific districts have not yet been named, officials noted that the rainfall is likely to be restricted to certain areas rather than covering the entire southern belt.

Further details regarding the distribution and intensity are expected to be shared closer to the date. At present, there are no alerts indicating heavy rain or extreme weather conditions.

Temperature Trends Remain Stable

In terms of temperature, no significant shifts are anticipated across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Daytime readings are expected to stay close to seasonal averages over the next few days.

However, weather officials have not ruled out a marginal increase in maximum temperatures in some areas. Despite this possibility, there is no forecast of heatwave-like conditions. Overall, temperature variations are expected to remain within normal limits for this time of year.

Chennai to Witness Partly Cloudy Skies

For Chennai, the outlook suggests a partly cloudy sky throughout the day. Early morning hours may bring light mist in isolated pockets, particularly in low-lying areas.

The maximum temperature in the city is expected to range between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius. These figures align closely with the city’s usual late-February climate pattern.

Advisory for Western Ghats Residents

Residents in the Western Ghats districts have been advised to stay prepared for short spells of rain, especially in elevated and hilly terrains where weather conditions can change quickly. Nonetheless, officials have emphasized that no major disruptions are anticipated at present.

With stable conditions prevailing across most parts of the state, the overall weather scenario remains calm. Authorities continue to monitor developments and will issue updates if there are any significant changes in the forecast.
