Honor Killing – A young woman was allegedly killed by her brother in what police describe as an honor killing in a village under the Asmoli police station limits of Uttar Pradesh. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted a detailed police investigation.
Family Dispute Over Relationship
The victim, identified as Rupjahan, had been in a relationship with Shivam, a resident of the same village who belongs to the Saini community. According to officials, the two were planning to marry, but their relationship faced resistance from Rupjahan’s family.
Sources familiar with the case said her parents had repeatedly urged her to end contact with Shivam. Despite the pressure, she continued speaking with him and remained firm about her decision. On Wednesday, she reportedly left home to meet Shivam, a move that further intensified tensions within the household.
Confrontation Turns Deadly
Later that day, family members brought Rupjahan back to the house. Investigators believe discussions were underway regarding arranging her marriage, possibly with Shivam, though circumstances surrounding the conversation remain under scrutiny.
Police allege that during this period, her brother, Jan-e-Alam, confronted her over the relationship. Authorities say he strangled her using a dupatta inside the house. At the time of the incident, only the brother and sister were present.
The alleged act resulted in her death at the scene. Officials have indicated that the brother’s strong objection to the relationship appears to have been the immediate trigger for the violence.
Police Action and Investigation
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Kumar Singh, the accused himself contacted emergency services by dialing 112 and informed authorities about the incident. A team from the Asmoli police station reached the residence in Matavali Patti village shortly afterward.
Officers arrested Jan-e-Alam at the scene and took the body into custody for a postmortem examination. An FIR has been registered, and investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements from family members and neighbors.
ASP Singh confirmed that a detailed probe is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine whether any additional factors contributed to the crime. He described the killing as a serious and disturbing offense.

Police sources revealed that this was not the first time the family had intervened in the relationship. Earlier, Rupjahan had reportedly gone to stay with a relative after leaving home to meet Shivam. Family members later brought her back, hoping to dissuade her from continuing the relationship.
