BJP – Nitin Nabin Highlights Assam’s Spiritual and Tea Heritage
BJP – The national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday underscored Assam’s spiritual traditions, communal harmony and the pivotal role of tea garden workers during his visit to Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts.

Visit to Barekuri Namghar Reflects Spiritual Harmony
Nitin Nabin began his tour with a visit to the Namghar at Barekuri village in Tinsukia district, describing the site as a powerful symbol of devotion and social unity. According to him, the prayer hall stands at the heart of the Moran community’s cultural life and represents the enduring spiritual practices that shape the region.
Sharing his reflections on social media platform X, he noted that Barekuri is not just a place of worship but also a village where faith and daily life are closely intertwined. He pointed out that residents maintain a balanced relationship with their surroundings, preserving both their traditions and the natural environment.
Coexistence of People and Wildlife in Barekur
Barekuri has drawn attention in recent years for its rare wildlife. Referring to remarks made earlier by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, Nabin highlighted that the village is home to the endangered Hoolock Gibbon, locally known as “Holo Bandar.”
These primates share the habitat with villagers, creating an uncommon example of peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife. Nabin said the small settlement demonstrates how cultural values and environmental awareness can complement each other. He offered prayers at the Namghar, seeking peace, prosperity and continued progress for the nation.
Traditional Welcome in Dibrugarh
Later in the day, Nabin visited the Lakhinagar area of Dibrugarh district, where he was hosted by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. During the visit, he was served a traditional Assamese breakfast at Sonowal’s residence.
The interaction, he said, gave him an opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality that Assam is known for. He also spoke about the region’s culinary heritage, noting that local food traditions remain an important part of community life and identity.
Assam Tea and the Workforce Behind Its Global Name
Turning to the state’s economy, Nabin emphasized the importance of Assam’s tea industry. He observed that the tea estates, with their expansive green landscapes, are not only central to the state’s economy but also form a defining image of Assam recognized worldwide.
Assam tea, known for its strong flavor and quality, has earned a firm place in international markets. Nabin attributed this reputation to the dedication and discipline of tea garden workers who have sustained the industry through consistent effort over generations.
He acknowledged that their contribution extends beyond economic output, shaping Assam’s identity and strengthening its position in global trade. According to him, the success of Assam tea stands as a testament to the resilience and hard work of those employed in the plantations.
Focus on Sustainable and Inclusive Growth
Concluding his visit, Nabin said that Assam’s cultural depth, ecological richness and economic strengths must be preserved and promoted together. He stressed the importance of development that respects tradition while encouraging sustainability and inclusion.
The tour, he added, reinforced the need to protect spiritual landmarks, support local communities and safeguard wildlife habitats, all while ensuring economic progress.
By highlighting faith, culture and industry during his visit, the BJP leader sought to draw attention to the interconnected elements that define Assam’s identity on both a national and global stage.
