Arrest Made After Intelligence Input

The accused, identified as Rahul Kumar, also known as Gaju, lives on Chamrang Road in Amritsar and works as an assistant at a salon. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams launched an operation that led to his detention and the seizure of the explosive device.

Senior officials stated that the operation was carried out following credible information about the movement of an IED that had allegedly been sent from across the border. The swift action by law enforcement agencies prevented what authorities described as a potentially serious threat.

Explosive Device Concealed to Avoid Detection

Investigators revealed that the recovered device was made using RDX and had been carefully concealed inside a PVC pipe. Officials believe the method of concealment was intended to bypass routine checks and security screening.

Preliminary findings suggest that Kumar collected the explosive from a pre-decided location on the outskirts of the city. Police said he was guided throughout the process by a handler based abroad, who was reportedly acting under instructions from Pakistan.

Links to Foreign-Based Handler

According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, early stages of the investigation indicate that the accused had established contact with the foreign-based operative during a visit to Punjab in 2022. Since then, they are believed to have stayed in touch using encrypted mobile applications to avoid surveillance.

Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann shared further details, explaining that the handler allegedly provided Kumar with small sums of money over time. These funds were reportedly meant to cover daily expenses before assigning him the task of retrieving the explosive device.

Police officials suspect that the financial support and continued communication were part of a larger attempt to recruit and direct local individuals for disruptive activities. However, authorities have not disclosed specific details about the wider network, citing the ongoing investigation.

Investigation Focuses on Intended Target

At this stage, investigators are working to determine the possible target of the recovered IED. Officials have refrained from speculating, stating that multiple angles are being examined.

Security agencies are also assessing whether additional individuals may have been involved in the planning or execution of the plot. The State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar is leading the probe, with technical and forensic teams analyzing the device and related evidence.

Legal Action Underway

A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act, the Arms Act, and the Indian Penal Code. Authorities confirmed that further questioning of the accused is underway to uncover the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.

Punjab Police emphasized that border districts remain under close surveillance, particularly in light of repeated attempts to push illegal arms, explosives, and narcotics into the state. Officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing activities that could disrupt peace in the region.

The latest development comes amid heightened vigilance by security agencies across Punjab, especially in areas near the international border. Police have urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, while assuring that proactive measures are being taken to counter emerging threats
