Arrival and security arrangements

Shah landed in Dibrugarh shortly after midnight amid heightened security arrangements. He proceeded directly from the airport to his place of stay. Senior officials from the Assam government, along with leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, were present to receive him, underscoring the importance attached to the visit.

Inauguration of legislative assembly facilities

The Home Minister will begin his formal engagements by inaugurating the second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dibrugarh. A key component of the project is the newly constructed MLA Hostel, also known as the Vidhayak Bhavan. The facility has been designed to provide improved residential accommodation and functional workspaces for elected representatives, addressing long-standing infrastructural needs.

Officials have described the project as a significant step toward strengthening legislative support systems in the state. The addition is expected to ease logistical constraints for legislators and enhance the overall functioning of the assembly outside the capital.

Focus on wildlife health and research

During his forenoon schedule, Shah will lay the foundation stone for the Wildlife Health and Research Institute. The proposed institute is intended to focus on wildlife disease control, veterinary treatment, and scientific study. Assam, home to diverse and ecologically sensitive habitats, has long required specialised facilities to manage conservation challenges.

According to officials, the institute will support research-based interventions and coordinated responses to wildlife health issues. It is expected to play a role in strengthening conservation efforts, particularly in areas where human-wildlife interaction is frequent.

Sports infrastructure in Upper Assam

Another major event on the itinerary is the inauguration of the Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh. Equipped with modern facilities, the stadium is aimed at promoting organised sports and providing better training infrastructure for young athletes. Local administrators believe the venue will serve as a focal point for sporting activities in Upper Assam and encourage wider participation at the grassroots level.

The development of sports infrastructure has been highlighted by the state government as part of broader efforts to engage youth and support talent development across districts.

Cultural engagement in Dhemaji district

Later in the day, Shah will travel to Dhemaji district to attend the 10th Mising Cultural Festival at Kareng Chapori. The festival is a prominent annual event for the Mising community and features traditional music, dance performances, customary practices, and displays of indigenous heritage.

His presence at the festival is seen as a symbolic recognition of the cultural diversity of the Northeast. Officials noted that such engagements help bring national attention to regional traditions and support ongoing efforts to preserve indigenous identities.

Political meetings in Guwahati

In the evening, the Home Minister is scheduled to depart Dibrugarh for Guwahati. After arriving in the state capital, he will visit the BJP’s Assam headquarters, where meetings with party office-bearers and interactions with workers are planned. Party sources indicated that discussions are expected to cover organisational issues and preparations for upcoming political activities.

Overview of the visit

Shah’s day-long programme in Assam combines administrative duties, development-focused initiatives, cultural participation, and party-related engagements. Officials said the visit reflects an integrated approach that brings governance priorities and regional outreach together within a single schedule.
