Sri Lanka: Following his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), COAS General Upendra Dwivedi began an official tour to Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The strong commitment to strengthening relations between the two nations is shown by the COAS’s visit to Sri Lanka. According to an official announcement from the ADGPI, his visit also takes place in the context of Operation Sagar Bandhu.

“General Upendra Dwivedi COAS, proceeded on an official visit to Sri Lanka today,” the ADGPI said in a post on X. The visit demonstrates the two countries’ strong will to improve understanding between them, expand their collaboration in areas of common interest, and fortify their bilateral defense cooperation. Operation Sagar Bandhu serves as the background for the visit, which symbolizes India’s unwavering kinship with our stalwart ally.

The Indian Army Engineers have started building a 100-foot Bailey Bridge in Kandy to reestablish communication in the area, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said on Sunday. The visit by the COAS is a part of India’s ongoing efforts to improve military-to-military relations and defense cooperation with friendly foreign nations.

The COAS will go to Sri Lanka on January 7-8, as previously announced by the Ministry of Defense. The Sri Lanka Army will present the COAS with a Guard of Honor upon arrival.

He will have in-depth talks on topics of shared interest, such as training cooperation, capacity development, and regional security, with high-ranking military and civilian officials, such as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Deputy Minister of Defense, and the Defense Secretary.

In keeping with India’s strong commitment to defence education and professional military exchanges with Sri Lanka, the COAS will speak to officers at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and engage with officers and trainees at the Army War College, Buttala, during the visit.

The MoD said that General Dwivedi would also pay respect at the IPKF War Memorial, honoring the ultimate sacrifice made by Indian troops.

India’s commitment to bolstering defense cooperation, building mutual confidence, and improving interoperability with friendly states in the Indian Ocean Region and West Asia is reaffirmed by the Chief of Army Staff’s visit to Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
