Increase at the national level: Overall crime in Telangana recorded a noticeable decline in 2025, reinforcing the state’s reputation for maintaining effective law and order. According to the annual crime review, a total of 228,695 cases were registered during the year, compared to 234,158 cases in 2024, reflecting a reduction of 2.33 percent. Control Over Extremism and Internal Security

One of the most significant achievements of 2025 was the continued containment of Maoist and terror-related activities. Security forces maintained strong intelligence networks and proactive field operations, resulting in the surrender of 509 Maoists during the year. This outcome indicates growing public confidence in the state’s rehabilitation policies and its commitment to long-term peace. The stable internal security environment has also contributed to smoother governance and improved investment sentiment across the region.

Progress in Cybercrime Prevention

Cybercrime remained a major focus area, and Telangana demonstrated commendable progress in this challenging domain. While cybercrime incidents increased sharply at the national level, the state managed to reduce such cases by 3 percent. This achievement is particularly notable given the rapid expansion of digital services and online financial activity. Even more encouraging was the 21 percent reduction in financial losses linked to cyber offences, suggesting better awareness, faster response mechanisms, and improved digital investigation capabilities. Specialized cyber units, public awareness campaigns, and technology-driven policing played a key role in this success.

Decline in Crimes Against Individuals

Crimes against individuals showed a clear downward trend in 2025. Kidnapping and abduction cases dropped by 25 percent, decreasing from 1,525 cases in the previous year to 1,145. Similarly, reported rape cases declined by more than 13 percent, falling from 2,945 to 2,549 cases. These reductions reflect strengthened surveillance, faster investigation processes, and targeted initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable groups. The active deployment of dedicated safety teams for women has further enhanced public trust and reporting efficiency.

Social Justice and Community Policing Outcomes

Cases related to dowry harassment declined by 2 percent, while incidents registered under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act fell by 9.5 percent. These figures point toward improved dispute resolution, community engagement, and preventive policing. In the area of child welfare, the state achieved a major milestone through Operation Smile and Operation Muskaan. A total of 12,396 children were rescued during the year, earning Telangana the top national ranking for these initiatives. This accomplishment underscores the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between police, social welfare departments, and civil society organizations.

Road Safety and Emergency Response

Road safety presented a mixed picture in 2025. Although the overall number of road accidents increased by 5.68 percent, fatalities dropped significantly by 7.9 percent. The number of lives lost stood at 6,499, which was lower than in the previous year. This improvement is attributed to quicker emergency response, better trauma care, stricter enforcement of traffic rules, and targeted awareness programs. The focus on reducing fatal outcomes, rather than only accident numbers, marked a strategic shift in road safety management.

Judicial Efficiency and Infrastructure Expansion

To improve access to justice, the police registered 1,251 Zero FIRs across the state, ensuring that victims could file complaints without jurisdictional delays. This practice strengthened trust in the legal system and enabled faster investigations. Infrastructure development also remained a priority, with the establishment of the HYDRAA Police Station and the upgradation of CCS Rajendranagar and CCS Medchal Zone into full-fledged police stations. These expansions enhanced operational capacity and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.

Overall Assessment

The crime statistics of 2025 indicate that Telangana has made steady progress in strengthening public safety through consistent policing, modern technology, and community-focused initiatives. While challenges remain, particularly in areas like road accidents, the overall decline in crime and improved outcomes in cyber safety, women’s security, and child welfare reflect a balanced and effective law enforcement strategy.
