According to the first survey, which was carried out by YouGov over the seven days leading up to Monday, 92% of Australians think that, in the aftermath of the Bondi Beach terrorist incident, gun ownership should either be outlawed or subject to stricter regulations.

Fifty percent of survey participants who identified as Labor Party supporters thought that gun ownership should be prohibited, forty-seven percent said that restrictions should be strengthened, and three percent answered that nothing should change.

“Australians are united in their support for stronger gun control,” YouGov’s Paul Smith, Director of Public Data, said.

According to the second opinion survey, which was carried out by market research company Resolve Strategic and published by Nine Entertainment publications on Tuesday, 76% of Australians want tougher gun regulations, while 10% would rather leave them as they are.

According to the same survey, 72% of participants are in favor of limiting gun permits to Australian nationals, while more than 80% are in favor of further measures including stricter laws governing high-powered weapons, a national database to monitor firearms, and a cap on the number of firearms an individual may own.

Following a terrorist assault on a Jewish celebration at Bondi Beach on December 14 that resulted in the deaths of fifteen people, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promised to take quick steps to reform gun restrictions.

Following the incident, authorities revealed that one of the two attackers had a weapons license and was the lawful owner of six firearms, according to Xinhua news agency.

Albanese previously stated that the federal, state, and territory governments will create options on tougher gun laws, such as limiting the number of guns that can be owned by a single individual. On Friday, he announced that a nationwide firearm buyback program would be established to reduce the number of firearms in the community.
