India attacked Pakistan: ‘Imran Khan in jail, army chief given ultimate power’ | WATCH India exposes Pakistan’s democratic backslide before the UN
India attacked Pakistan: In a scathing rebuttal, India attacked Pakistan’s “divisive agenda” at the UN Security Council, pointing out Islamabad’s “unique” approach to upholding the will of its people by imprisoning a prime minister and granting its army leader lifelong immunity.

During an open discussion on “Leadership for Peace,” Pakistan’s Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad brought up the issues of Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, responded forcefully in the Security Council on Monday.
Pakistan was referred to as the “global epicentre of terror” by Parvathaneni, who also criticized the country for using the UN platform to advance its “obsessive focus on harming India and its people.”
He went on to say that Pakistan undercuts its international obligations as a non-permanent member of the UNSC by pursuing a divisive agenda.
JK is an essential component of India: Parvathaneni
“I’m referring to what the Pakistani representative said today. India would like to stress that the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir are an essential and unalienable part of the country. They were, still are, and always will be. The Ambassador said, “Pakistan’s unwarranted reference to Jammu & Kashmir in today’s open debate attests to its obsessive focus on harming India and its people.”
“A serving non-permanent Security Council Member that chooses to further this obsession in all meetings and platforms of the UN in pursuit of its divisive agenda cannot be expected to fulfil its designated responsibilities and obligations,” he said.
India upholds the water pact.
The Indian diplomat firmly backed New Delhi’s decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold, pointing to Pakistan’s lengthy history of supporting terrorism.
He said that despite India’s sincere entry into the Treaty 65 years ago, Pakistan had consistently transgressed its spirit by launching three wars and planning hundreds of terrorist operations against India.
He cited the Pahalgam terror assault in April 2025, which murdered 26 innocent people in a targeted, religion-based attack, as evidence of Pakistan’s ongoing backing for terrorism.
In this regard, he said that India has chosen to put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold until Pakistan really and permanently stops supporting cross-border terrorism as well as all other types of terror.
“India signed the Indus Waters Treaty 65 years ago with good intentions, in an atmosphere of friendliness and goodwill. By waging three wars and carrying out thousands of terror acts against India over the course of these six and a half decades, Pakistan has broken the spirit of the Treaty, he said.
Tens of thousands of Indian lives have been lost in Pakistan-sponsored terror strikes over the last forty years. The most recent of these was the Pahalgam terror assault in April 2025, in which 26 innocent citizens were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists on the basis of their faith. In light of this, India has finally declared that the Treaty would remain in limbo until Pakistan, a major worldwide hub for terrorism, resolutely and genuinely pulls out of supporting cross-border and other types of terrorism,” the Ambassador said.
Ultiamte powers are granted to Asim Munir.
Along with criticizing Pakistan’s internal political situation of stifling democratic will, Parvathaneni brought up the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the expulsion of the ruling party, and the “constitutional coup” that was orchestrated by the 27th amendment to give its Chief of Defence Forces, Asim Munir, lifetime immunity.
“Pakistan, of course, has a unique way of respecting the will of its people – by jailing a Prime Minister, by banning the ruling political party and by letting its armed forces engineer a constitutional coup through the 27th amendment and giving lifetime immunity to its Chief of Defence Forces,” Parvathaneni stated.
“Let me be clear – India will counter Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in all its forms and manifestations with all its might,” he said.
