Large Public Participation Marks Pre-Yoga Day Event

Addressing participants at the stadium, Pathak said the enthusiastic turnout reflected the growing popularity of Yoga across the country. He noted that people from different age groups had gathered to take part in the event and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through traditional wellness practices.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the event was organised ahead of International Day of Yoga celebrations and served as a platform to encourage more citizens to adopt healthier habits. He emphasised that Yoga contributes not only to physical fitness but also supports mental balance and emotional stability.

Appeal to Make Yoga a Daily Practice

During his interaction with attendees, Pathak urged people nationwide to include Yoga in their everyday lives. He said regular practice can help individuals maintain better health and improve overall quality of life.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that Yoga has gained widespread acceptance over the years and continues to attract people seeking a balanced approach to health. He added that the message of wellness should reach every household, encouraging individuals to stay active and mindful through simple daily exercises and breathing techniques.

Remarks on Prime Minister’s West Bengal Visit

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to West Bengal, Pathak expressed confidence that Yoga-related activities would also receive a positive response there. He said people across different regions of the country are increasingly recognising the benefits of Yoga and participating in programmes linked to the annual observance.

His comments came as preparations for International Day of Yoga were being carried out across several states, with authorities and community organisations planning events aimed at promoting health awareness.

Significance of International Day of Yoga

International Day of Yoga is observed every year on June 21. The global observance was officially established after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 11, 2014. The initiative originated from a proposal presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated in 2015 and has since evolved into a worldwide movement involving governments, institutions, educational organisations and health-focused communities.

Focus on Healthy Ageing in 2026

The year 2026 marks the twelfth edition of the global Yoga celebration. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights the role of Yoga in supporting people throughout different stages of life. The theme encourages individuals to remain active, independent and socially engaged as they grow older.

Health experts and organisers believe Yoga can contribute to flexibility, balance, mental wellness and overall quality of life, making it accessible and beneficial for people of all ages.

Global Outreach Activities Underway

Ahead of this year’s observance, Indian missions in several countries have been conducting awareness programmes involving members of the Indian diaspora and local communities. These initiatives are designed to increase understanding of Yoga and its potential health benefits while strengthening cultural and wellness exchanges around the world.

With large gatherings being organised both in India and abroad, International Day of Yoga continues to serve as a platform for promoting healthier lifestyles and encouraging greater public participation in wellness-focused activities.
