Wages – Revised Minimum Pay Rates Announced for Noida Ghaziabad Workers

Wages – The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared a revision in minimum wages for workers employed across different categories in the Noida and Ghaziabad industrial zones. The decision follows recent unrest among factory workers who had been demanding a long-overdue increase in their salaries. Officials confirmed that the updated wage structure will be implemented from April 1.

Government Approves Revised Wage Structure

District Magistrate Medha Roopam of Gautam Buddh Nagar stated that the revised wage framework was finalized by a high-level committee and received approval from the Chief Minister. The move is being seen as a response to growing pressure from labor groups who had raised concerns about stagnant wages amid rising living costs.

According to the official announcement, workers in the Noida and Ghaziabad industrial belt will now receive higher monthly pay based on their skill category. Unskilled workers will earn Rs 13,690 per month, up from the previous Rs 11,313. Semi-skilled workers will receive Rs 15,059, while skilled workers will now earn Rs 16,868 per month.

Wage Changes Across Other Urban Areas

The revised pay scale is not limited to Noida and Ghaziabad. In other municipal corporation regions of the state, minimum wages have also been increased. Unskilled workers in these areas will now receive Rs 13,006 per month. Semi-skilled workers will earn Rs 14,306, while skilled workers will be paid Rs 16,025 monthly.

For workers in districts outside municipal corporation limits, the new wage rates have also been adjusted. Unskilled laborers will receive Rs 12,356 per month, semi-skilled workers Rs 13,591, and skilled workers Rs 15,224. Officials indicated that these revisions aim to maintain consistency across regions while accounting for local economic conditions.

Background of Worker Protests

The wage revision comes shortly after widespread protests in parts of Noida, where workers from multiple industrial units had been demonstrating over pay-related issues. The protests intensified earlier this week, particularly in areas such as Phase-2 and Sector 60, where large groups of workers gathered to voice their demands.

Authorities reported that the demonstrations initially began as peaceful gatherings but later escalated in certain locations. Workers were seen raising slogans and blocking roads, causing disruptions in traffic and daily operations in several industrial clusters.

Incidents of Violence and Damage Reported

In some areas, the situation turned tense, with reports of stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson. A vehicle was set on fire, while several others were damaged during the unrest. These incidents led to significant traffic congestion and raised concerns about safety in key industrial zones.

Police officials stated that Phase-2, one of the major industrial hubs in Noida, witnessed particularly intense protests. Over 1,000 workers from companies including Motherson, Richa Global, Rainbow, Paramount, SND, and Anubhav had been participating in demonstrations over the past few days.

Around 500 workers had gathered outside one of the manufacturing facilities when clashes broke out, further escalating the situation.

Protests Spread Across Multiple Locations

The protests were not confined to a single area. Reports indicated that demonstrations took place at more than 10 locations, including Sectors 40, 60, and 85. In Sectors 1, 15, and 62, workers blocked major roads, leading to severe traffic jams and inconvenience for commuters.

Officials have since increased security presence in sensitive areas to prevent further escalation. Authorities are also engaging with worker representatives and industrial units to ensure that the revised wage structure is implemented smoothly.

The government’s decision to revise wages is expected to ease tensions in the region, though officials continue to monitor the situation closely to maintain law and order.
