Politics – Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Son Prateek Yadav Dies in Lucknow at 38
Politics – Prateek Yadav, the younger son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, died in Lucknow on Wednesday morning at the age of 38. He was reportedly taken to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital in the early hours of the day, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Hospital Confirms Death on Arrival
According to hospital officials, Prateek Yadav was brought to the emergency department around 6 am by Aman Singh Bisht, brother of his wife Aparna Yadav. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. D.C. Pandey stated that there were no signs of pulse activity when he was admitted, and his heart had already stopped functioning.
Medical authorities have not officially confirmed the exact reason behind his death. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow to determine the cause.
Health Concerns Reportedly Continued for Several Days
Sources familiar with the family said Prateek had been dealing with health complications for some time. Reports indicate that he was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow on April 30 in serious condition. After remaining under treatment for nearly three days, he is believed to have returned home once his condition appeared to improve.
However, officials have not released any medical statement regarding his illness. Family members are yet to make a detailed public comment on the matter.
Aparna Yadav Returns to Lucknow
Following the news of his death, Aparna Yadav reportedly cut short her visit to Assam and immediately left for Lucknow. She had travelled there to attend an official event linked to the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Aparna Yadav is currently associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party and serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission.
Stayed Away From Active Politics
Although Prateek belonged to one of India’s most influential political families, he maintained distance from electoral politics throughout his life. He was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhana Gupta.
Prateek completed his education at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Instead of entering politics, he focused on business ventures connected to fitness and real estate.
He owned a well-known fitness centre in Lucknow named “The Fitness Planet.” Alongside his business interests, he was also involved in animal welfare activities through an organisation called “Jeev Aashray,” which worked for the rescue, treatment, and care of stray dogs.
Personal Life Drew Attention Earlier This Year
Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav were married in December 2011 in Safai village of Etawah district after being in a relationship for nearly a decade. Their marriage had occasionally attracted public attention over the years.
Earlier this year, Prateek had shared a series of emotional posts on social media that led to speculation about differences in their relationship. In one of the posts, he made serious remarks about Aparna and later mentioned the possibility of divorce. However, the posts were removed within hours.
Soon after, Prateek released another message and a video clarifying that the situation had arisen after a personal disagreement between the couple. He later stated that misunderstandings had been resolved, effectively ending rumours regarding separation.
Political Leaders Express Condolences
The Samajwadi Party expressed grief over his death through a brief message shared on social media. The party described the loss as deeply saddening and offered prayers for peace to the departed soul.
Leaders and supporters from different political backgrounds have also started expressing condolences to the Yadav family as news of Prateek Yadav’s death spread across Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
