Lucknow: Annual Crime and Policing Review Highlights Major Law Enforcement Trends in Lucknow

Lucknow: The annual crime and policing review released this Sunday presents a detailed overview of law enforcement activities, crime trends, and administrative measures undertaken across Lucknow during the year 2025. The report reflects both measurable achievements and areas that continue to raise questions regarding implementation at the ground level.

Overview of Cybercrime Complaints and Resolution

One of the most significant aspects of the report is the sharp focus on digital offenses. Between January 1 and December 28, 2025, the Lucknow Commissionerate Police registered a total of 6,456 cybercrime complaints. Authorities stated that nearly 90 percent of these cases were resolved within the year, indicating faster response mechanisms and improved coordination with financial institutions and telecom service providers.

To curb digital fraud, police officials blocked close to 10,000 mobile numbers found to be associated with cybercriminal activities. In addition, an amount of Rs 11.68 crore that had been illegally transferred from victims’ bank accounts was successfully frozen, preventing further misuse of funds.

Decline in Violent Crime and Legal Action Taken

The report highlights a year-on-year decline in murder cases, suggesting improved preventive policing and intelligence gathering. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bablu Kumar, stringent monitoring and timely interventions played a role in reducing serious violent incidents.

During the year, 525 accused individuals involved in murder-related cases were sent to judicial custody. In particularly serious matters, action under the National Security Act was taken against three individuals, reflecting a tougher stance against threats to public safety.

Status of Organized Crime and Convictions

In a notable claim, the police stated that there were no reported incidents of dacoity in the district throughout the year. The report also outlines enforcement actions under the Gangster Act and the Goonda Act, aimed at dismantling organized criminal networks and habitual offenders.

Under Operation Conviction, a focused initiative to strengthen case follow-up and prosecution, 829 criminals were convicted. Among these, 139 individuals were found guilty in serious cases involving crimes against women and girls. One case resulted in a capital punishment verdict, underscoring the gravity of certain offenses addressed during the year.

Security Arrangements for Major Events

The report also sheds light on the police department’s role in ensuring security during high-profile visits and large-scale events. These included the arrival of the President, the Vice President, international jamboree programs, and several major sporting events. According to officials, coordinated planning and deployment ensured that these events concluded without major law and order disruptions.

Social Campaigns and Community Initiatives

Several community-oriented campaigns were also highlighted. Mission Shakti focused on women’s safety and empowerment, while the Nasha Mukti campaign aimed at reducing drug abuse across the city. Operation Pehchan was conducted to verify identities and improve record accuracy, particularly in densely populated or sensitive areas.

These initiatives were presented as part of a broader strategy to combine enforcement with social responsibility and preventive outreach.

Traffic Management and Infrastructure Claims

Traffic regulation emerged as another key area discussed in the report. Police authorities praised their efforts in managing congestion through diversions and the introduction of one-way systems at high-pressure junctions. In some areas, these measures reportedly led to smoother traffic flow during peak hours.

However, claims regarding the identification and engineering improvement of accident-prone black spots have drawn scrutiny. While the report asserts that substantial work was carried out at such locations, independent observations suggest that the impact of these improvements is not uniformly visible across the city.

Concerns Over Highway Patrolling Effectiveness

The report also mentions continuous patrolling on highways and major roads, but this claim appears to be contested by recent incidents. On December 22, a speeding bus traveling in the wrong direction on the service lane of the Agra Expressway fatally struck a motorcyclist. This incident has raised concerns about enforcement consistency, especially on high-speed corridors.

Conclusion and Public Perception

Overall, the annual review presents a mixed picture. While statistical improvements in cybercrime resolution, convictions, and reductions in certain violent crimes are noteworthy, questions remain about on-ground execution in traffic safety and highway monitoring. The report serves as both a record of progress and a reminder of the challenges that still require sustained attention from law enforcement agencies.
