LPGExplosion – A powerful explosion triggered by a leaking cooking gas cylinder left nine people severely injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district late Sunday night, prompting emergency medical action and a police investigation.
Explosion Rocks Village Home
The incident occurred in Pilkhini village, which falls under the Kalyanpur police station area, when a sudden fire and blast tore through a small two-room house. Officials said the explosion happened while dinner was being prepared inside the residence.
According to local authorities, the accident is believed to have been caused by gas leaking from a pipe connected to an LPG cylinder. Investigators clarified that the cylinder itself did not burst, but the accumulated gas inside the house ignited and caused a powerful explosion.
Several Family Members Suffer Severe Burns
Police said six people inside the house at the time sustained major burn injuries. Three others were hurt while attempting to rescue trapped family members from the flames and smoke.
Kalawati, the wife of Santosh Lodhi, was reportedly cooking when the leakage began. Before anyone in the house could stop the leak or move to safety, the gas caught fire, leading to panic and destruction inside the home.
Among those injured were family members identified as Sajan, Sulekha, Sanjay, Sunita, Rita and Soni. A neighbour named Karan also suffered serious injuries while trying to help during the emergency.
Villagers Joined Rescue Efforts
Residents living nearby rushed to the spot immediately after hearing cries for help and the sound of the explosion. Villagers worked together to pull victims from the damaged structure and helped control the fire before firefighters and police teams arrived.
Emergency ambulances later transported all injured persons to Malwan Medical College for urgent treatment. Medical officials stated that the condition of several victims remained critical due to extensive burns.
Green Corridor Created for Emergency Transfer
As the seriousness of the injuries became clear, district authorities arranged for eight patients to be shifted to hospitals in Kanpur for advanced treatment. To speed up transportation and avoid delays, officials created a green corridor for the ambulances carrying the victims.
Senior police officers also reached the site soon after the incident to review the situation and oversee rescue operations.
Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik said initial findings pointed toward a gas leak as the main reason behind the blast. He added that the administration was continuously monitoring the treatment of the injured patients.
Officials Monitoring Medical Treatment
Authorities confirmed that police personnel had been deployed in Kanpur to coordinate with hospital staff and ensure proper medical care for those admitted.
Officials from the district administration and local police remained present both at the accident site and at the hospitals where the victims were receiving treatment.
Kalyanpur police station in-charge Sumit Dev Pandey said the critically injured were referred to Hallett Hospital in Kanpur for specialised burn treatment. He added that the matter was under investigation and further details would emerge after technical examination of the damaged house and gas equipment.
Investigation Underway
Police teams and administrative officials are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the leak and subsequent fire. Authorities are also assessing whether any safety lapses or equipment faults contributed to the tragedy.
The explosion has once again raised concerns about household LPG safety in rural areas, where small leaks can quickly turn dangerous in enclosed spaces. Officials have urged residents to remain alert while using cooking gas and report any suspected leakage immediately.
