Healthcare – Lucknow hospital conditions spark fresh political confrontation in Uttar Pradesh
Healthcare – Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of failing to improve conditions at a major state-run hospital in Lucknow, intensifying his criticism of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the state’s health administration.

Allegations over neglect of major hospital
Yadav raised concerns about what he described as worsening conditions at King George’s Medical University, one of the most prominent healthcare institutions in the state capital. In a post shared on social media platform X, he claimed that the government had ignored the realities faced by patients and hospital staff.
According to Yadav, both the Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak have remained detached from ground-level issues. He suggested that their public engagements have focused more on political outreach than addressing pressing healthcare challenges.
Criticism of government outreach efforts
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also questioned the intent behind recent public communications by state leaders. He alleged that official outreach efforts were misleading and failed to reflect the actual situation in Lucknow’s healthcare facilities.
In his remarks, Yadav said that those in power should personally visit the hospital to understand the difficulties faced by the public. He added that there had been little expectation of meaningful intervention in the past and expressed doubt that the situation would improve in the near future.
Video evidence cited in claims
To support his allegations, Yadav shared a video clip of a media report that reportedly highlighted the poor state of infrastructure and services at the hospital. He emphasized that the footage was genuine and not digitally altered, preempting any claims that it might have been artificially generated.
He also clarified that the concerns raised were based on real conditions and not exaggerated for political purposes. His statement appeared aimed at reinforcing the credibility of the criticism amid increasing political exchanges in the state.
Appeal for restraint in response
In a pointed message, Yadav urged the Chief Minister to respond cautiously to criticism. Without naming specific actions, he suggested that strong measures should not be taken against those raising concerns about public services.
The comment was widely interpreted as a reference to past instances where strict administrative actions were taken against dissent or criticism. Yadav framed his appeal as a request to allow open discussion on issues affecting the public.
Continuing political exchanges
The remarks come amid an ongoing war of words between the Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh. Just a day earlier, Yadav had criticized Adityanath over comments directed at opposition parties, accusing the BJP of frequently shifting its stance on key policy matters.
He also alleged that the ruling party has delayed the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, claiming that data collection efforts have been prolonged without clear outcomes. These statements indicate that political tensions remain high as both sides continue to challenge each other on governance and policy issues.
Focus on governance and public services
The latest criticism highlights healthcare as a central issue in the political discourse of Uttar Pradesh. With Lucknow being home to several key medical institutions, concerns about infrastructure and patient care often draw significant public attention.
While the state government has not immediately responded to these specific allegations, the issue is likely to remain a point of debate in the coming days, especially as political parties continue to focus on governance and public service delivery.
