The event took place in the state capital, where Mayawati offered flowers at Ambedkar’s statue and addressed party members. The gathering reflected the continued influence of Ambedkar’s ideas among large sections of society, particularly among communities that the BSP represents. Supporters marked the day with speeches, slogans, and expressions of respect for the architect of the Indian Constitution.

Mayawati Highlights Ambedkar’s Contributions

In a message shared on social media platform X, Mayawati acknowledged Ambedkar’s lifelong struggle for equality and justice. She emphasized his role in shaping a Constitution that guarantees fundamental rights and safeguards the interests of marginalized communities.

She described Ambedkar as a guiding force for the Bahujan Samaj, noting that his work laid the foundation for social transformation in India. Her message also included appreciation for BSP workers across the country who observed the anniversary with dedication and respect.

Focus on Social Justice and Equality

Mayawati underlined that Ambedkar devoted his life to addressing social discrimination, poverty, and inequality. She said his efforts were directed toward uplifting the oppressed, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and women affected by social and economic hardships.

According to her, Ambedkar’s vision was rooted in creating a society where dignity, equal opportunity, and justice are accessible to all. His role in embedding these principles within the Constitution remains one of his most enduring contributions.

Political Remarks Ahead of Elections

In her remarks, Mayawati also criticized ruling parties, stating that successive governments have not fully realized Ambedkar’s vision. She argued that if constitutional principles had been effectively implemented, the country would have made greater progress in addressing unemployment, poverty, and social inequality.

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled in 2027, her comments signaled a renewed political focus on issues related to social justice and economic empowerment. She urged people to reflect on why Ambedkar’s goals remain incomplete and to work collectively toward achieving them.

Ambedkar’s Life and Historic Role

Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, in present-day Madhya Pradesh. Despite facing severe discrimination due to the caste system, he pursued higher education and became a leading voice against social inequality.

One of his early movements included the Mahad Satyagraha in 1927, which demanded equal access to public water sources for marginalized communities. He also played a key role in the Poona Pact of 1932, which led to provisions for political representation of disadvantaged groups.

As chairman of the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution, Ambedkar ensured that legal frameworks addressed social disparities and protected the rights of historically marginalized populations.

Continuing Relevance of His Vision

Ambedkar’s ideas continue to shape public discourse in India, particularly around equality, representation, and constitutional rights. Events like Ambedkar Jayanti serve as reminders of his contributions and the ongoing need to uphold the values he championed.

The observance in Lucknow highlighted both remembrance and reflection, as leaders and citizens revisited the ideals that remain central to India’s democratic framework.
