IND vs SA 3rd T20I: In 2025, Shubman Gill makes history by being the top run scorer

IND vs SA 3rd T20I:  On Sunday, December 15, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Shubman Gill struck 28 runs in as many balls during the third Twenty20 International between South Africa and India. India won the game by seven wickets, giving them a 2-1 lead in the current five-match series.

In 5.2 overs, Shubman scored 60 runs with Abhishek Sharma (35 runs from 18 balls) for the first wicket and 32 runs with Tilak Varma (25 runs from 34 balls) for the second wicket. Gill became the top run scorer in international cricket in 2025 after hitting five fours when he was at the crease. As the captain of India’s Test and One-Day International side, Gill has scored 1764 runs in 35 games across all formats this year.

In 2025, Gill amassed 490 runs in 11 ODI matches and 983 runs in 16 innings in nine Test matches. This year, Gill has had terrible T20I results. He has only managed to score 291 runs in 15 games and has never once scored 50 runs. India’s top scorer in Twenty25 T20Is is Abhishek Sharma. In 20 20-over games so far this year, the left-handed opener has amassed 825 runs.

Gill has a good chance of finishing as the top run scorer in 2025 and will play up to two more international games. In 2025, Shai Hope, the runner-up, will also participate in one West Indies international game.

Regarding the game, South Africa was bowled out for 117 in their 20 overs after being sent into bat first. Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana all claimed two wickets each.
