Cricket – Aakash Tigers MWS reach T20 Mumbai Women’s League final with dominant win
Cricket – Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb secured a convincing place in the final of the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League after defeating Thane Sky Risers by eight wickets at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. A composed and match-winning innings from opener Sanika Chalke guided the team to a comfortable victory as they chased down the target with ease.

Sanika Leads Successful Run Chase
Pursuing a target of 114 runs, Aakash Tigers completed the chase in just 15 overs, finishing at 117 for 2. The foundation of the win was laid by Sanika Chalke, who remained unbeaten on 74 from 51 deliveries. Her innings featured a series of confident strokes, including 11 boundaries and two sixes, helping her side maintain complete control throughout the chase.
Sanika initially shared a 35-run opening partnership with Humairaa Kaazi before Thane Sky Risers found a brief opening. Medium pacer Kashish Nirmal struck twice in quick succession, dismissing Kaazi and then removing Sejal Raut without scoring. Those wickets reduced the Tigers to 35 for 2 and offered a momentary boost to the opposition.
Partnership Ends Thane’s Hopes
Despite the setbacks, the Tigers never lost momentum. Sanika continued to score freely while Fatima Jaffer provided valuable support from the other end. The duo combined for an unbeaten 82-run stand for the third wicket, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback for the Sky Risers.
Fatima contributed a steady 35 not out, rotating the strike efficiently and allowing Sanika to dominate the scoring. Their partnership ensured the chase was completed without further damage, with five overs still remaining.
Tigers Bowlers Restrict Sky Risers
Earlier in the day, Aakash Tigers produced a disciplined bowling performance after choosing to field first. Their bowlers kept a tight grip on the scoring rate and regularly picked up wickets, preventing Thane Sky Risers from building meaningful partnerships.
The Sky Risers concluded their innings at 113 for 9 in 20 overs. Vruushali Bhagat was the leading scorer with 32 runs, while Mansi Patil added 25. Team captain Khushi Bhatia also made a useful contribution with 21 runs. However, the rest of the batting line-up struggled to make a significant impact against the well-organized Tigers attack.
Balanced Bowling Effort Makes Difference
Aakash Tigers relied on a collective bowling display to limit the opposition. Manali Dakshini and Batul Pereira were the standout performers, claiming two wickets each while maintaining pressure through their economical spells.
The remaining bowlers supported effectively, ensuring that the Sky Risers never managed to accelerate during crucial phases of the innings. Frequent wickets and disciplined lines kept the total below what was considered a competitive score on the surface.
Final Clash Confirmed
With this comprehensive victory, Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb have advanced to the championship match of the tournament. They will now face SOBO Mumbai Falcons in the final scheduled to be played on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium.
The win highlighted both the batting strength and bowling depth of the Tigers, who will enter the title clash with confidence after an impressive all-round display in the semifinal.
