West Bengal Politics – Suvendu Adhikari Set to Lead New BJP Government
West Bengal Politics – A major political shift is unfolding in West Bengal as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to form its government in the state following its victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has been unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party and is expected to take oath as the next Chief Minister on Saturday.

The development has been welcomed by party leaders across the state and at the national level, with many describing it as a landmark moment for BJP workers in West Bengal. State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya said the formation of a BJP-led government fulfilled a long-standing aspiration shared by countless party supporters.
According to Bhattacharya, the political change marks a historic chapter for the state and reflects the public’s desire for a new administration. He stated that the victory represented a triumph for democratic values and signaled the end of what he described as a period of political disorder in the state.
BJP Leadership Celebrates Historic Political Shift
Following Adhikari’s selection as legislative party leader, several BJP leaders congratulated him and expressed optimism about the party’s future plans for West Bengal.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said the state would move toward the vision of “Sonar Bangla” under Adhikari’s leadership. He credited party workers and supporters across the state for contributing to the BJP’s electoral success and called the victory a collective achievement.
Party leaders also emphasized that the new government would focus on development, governance reforms, and public welfare initiatives in the coming years.
Party Leaders Back Adhikari’s Appointment
BJP leader Agnimitra Paul described Suvendu Adhikari as the most suitable candidate for the Chief Minister’s post. She highlighted his active role in state politics over the past several years and praised his efforts both inside the Assembly and in public campaigns.
Paul noted that all BJP legislators would need to work continuously to meet public expectations and deliver long-term improvements across the state. She added that the party viewed the election outcome as an opportunity to bring major administrative and developmental changes to West Bengal.
The BJP Legislature Party reportedly elected Adhikari unanimously, reflecting strong internal support for his leadership ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
Swearing-In Ceremony Scheduled on Rabindranath Tagore Anniversary
Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister on Saturday, a date that coincides with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The timing of the ceremony has added symbolic significance to the political transition in the state.
Bhattacharya also confirmed that former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony in accordance with official protocol.
The BJP’s victory in West Bengal marks one of the party’s most significant electoral achievements in eastern India. Political observers believe the new administration will face immediate expectations related to governance, economic development, infrastructure, employment generation, and law and order.
With the new government preparing to assume office, attention will now shift toward cabinet formation, policy priorities, and the BJP’s roadmap for governance in West Bengal over the next five years.
