WeatherAlert – Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Five Tamil Nadu Districts
WeatherAlert – The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu on Monday, with weather conditions remaining favourable for widespread rain due to an active cyclonic circulation over southern India. Along with intense showers, some districts may also witness thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds.

Rain Warning Issued for Five Districts
According to the latest forecast issued by the weather department, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in the hill regions of Coimbatore as well as the districts of Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, and Sivaganga. Meteorologists have linked the expected weather activity to a cyclonic circulation currently positioned over Rayalaseema and adjoining areas at an altitude ranging between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level.
Officials stated that the atmospheric system continues to support cloud formation and rainfall development across large sections of the state.
Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected
Apart from heavy showers, residents in the affected districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Wind speeds could reach up to 40 kilometres per hour in some locations, especially during periods of intense weather activity.
The weather department noted that these conditions may develop intermittently throughout the day and advised the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms.
Rainfall Forecast Extended Till June 27
Forecast models indicate that rain is likely to continue across many parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, until June 27. Weather experts said the prevailing conditions are expected to support regular rainfall episodes over the coming days.
Authorities have urged people residing in vulnerable locations, particularly near rivers, lakes, low-lying areas, and hilly terrain, to stay alert and follow official advisories. Emergency preparedness measures have also been recommended in regions prone to waterlogging or landslides.
Advisory for Farmers and Outdoor Workers
The weather department has advised farmers, construction workers, and individuals involved in outdoor activities to closely track weather updates. Sudden changes in weather, including thunderstorms and strong winds, may affect agricultural operations and outdoor work schedules.
Officials stressed the importance of taking precautionary measures to minimise risks associated with lightning strikes and heavy rainfall events.
Chennai May Receive Light Showers
In Chennai and neighbouring suburban areas, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy through the day. Light rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning may occur in some localities.
While the possibility of showers could bring temporary relief from daytime heat, humidity levels are expected to remain elevated, making weather conditions feel uncomfortable at times.
Temperatures Likely to Stay Near Seasonal Levels
The weather office has forecast a maximum temperature of around 38 degrees Celsius in Chennai. Despite the possibility of scattered rainfall, warm conditions are expected to persist during peak afternoon hours.
Minimum temperatures are likely to remain close to seasonal averages. Across Tamil Nadu, daytime temperatures are expected to stay near normal or marginally below normal until June 25.
Rain Expected to Ease Daytime Heat
Meteorologists believe the anticipated rainfall could help moderate temperatures in several western and southern districts of the state. Increased cloud cover and recurring showers are likely to reduce heat intensity in many areas over the next few days.
Weather officials said they are continuously monitoring the evolving system and will issue further advisories if rainfall activity strengthens or weather conditions change significantly.
