Weather Update – Cloud Cover Keeps Delhi Temperatures Below Seasonal Average
Weather Update – A layer of partial cloud cover continued to influence weather conditions across the national capital on Thursday, resulting in a slight drop in daytime temperatures while nights became comparatively warmer, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD stated that the city experienced relatively cooler daytime conditions due to persistent cloudy skies through much of the day. Safdarjung, considered the official weather monitoring station for Delhi, recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius. This was measured at 5.7 degrees below the seasonal average for this period, officials confirmed.
Minimum Temperatures Register an Increase
While daytime temperatures eased marginally, the minimum temperatures at major weather stations across Delhi witnessed an upward trend. Meteorologists explained that cloud formations played a key role in preventing heat from escaping the earth’s surface during the night hours, leading to comparatively warmer mornings in several parts of the city.
According to an IMD official, partly cloudy conditions tend to influence temperature patterns in two ways. During the daytime, clouds limit direct solar heating, causing maximum temperatures to remain lower than usual. At night, however, the same cloud cover traps heat near the surface, reducing the cooling effect typically experienced after sunset.
Cloudy Conditions Continue Across the Capital
Residents across several areas of Delhi reported overcast skies and mild weather conditions during the day. Although humidity levels remained moderate, the absence of intense sunshine provided temporary relief from rising summer heat.
Weather experts noted that these fluctuations are common during transitional weather phases when atmospheric moisture and changing wind patterns affect local climate conditions. The current spell of partly cloudy weather has also contributed to more stable daytime conditions compared to the sharp heat experienced earlier in the month.
IMD Predicts Rise in Temperature Ahead
Despite the temporary dip in maximum temperatures, the IMD has forecast a gradual increase in heat levels over the coming days. Officials indicated that as cloud cover reduces and clearer skies return, daytime temperatures are expected to climb steadily across Delhi and surrounding regions.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring atmospheric developments, including wind direction and moisture levels, which could influence future weather activity in northern India. However, no major weather disturbance has been predicted for the immediate period.
The changing weather pattern has prompted authorities to advise residents to remain prepared for warmer conditions later this week. Health experts also recommend staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours as temperatures begin to rise again.
Delhi has witnessed fluctuating weather conditions in recent weeks, with intermittent cloud activity affecting temperature readings across multiple districts. The latest IMD observations suggest that while current conditions remain relatively comfortable compared to normal summer levels, hotter days are likely to return soon.
