Weather – Tamil Nadu Set for Warm Days as Western Ghats Brace for Rainfall

Weather –Light to moderate rain is expected to affect a few locations along the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu during the coming days, while much of the state is likely to remain dry with temperatures staying above seasonal levels. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), changing wind conditions over the region are influencing the current weather pattern.

Rainfall Limited to Western Ghats Region

The latest forecast issued by the weather department states that isolated parts of the Western Ghats districts may receive light to moderate showers from July 13 to July 18. These rainfall events are linked to variations in the strength of the prevailing westerly winds. Outside these hill districts, weather activity is expected to remain limited, with most areas across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry likely to experience dry conditions. A few isolated locations, however, could witness brief spells of light rain during this period.

Temperatures Expected to Stay Above Seasonal Average

The meteorological office has also indicated that daytime temperatures are likely to remain higher than normal in several parts of Tamil Nadu. Between July 13 and July 16, maximum temperatures in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may range between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius above the usual average for this time of year. These conditions are expected to contribute to warmer afternoons across many districts.

Humidity May Increase Heat Discomfort

Weather experts have cautioned that the combination of elevated temperatures and high humidity could make conditions particularly uncomfortable, especially in coastal districts. Even where rainfall is absent, moisture in the air is likely to create a muggy atmosphere that can increase the feeling of heat. Coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to experience the greatest impact from these conditions.

Public Advised to Take Precautions

Officials have encouraged residents to take practical measures to reduce the effects of the hot weather. People are advised to stay well hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day and seek shade whenever possible. Extra care has been recommended for children, elderly citizens and individuals with existing health conditions, as they are generally more vulnerable to heat-related stress.

Chennai Likely to Remain Hot and Partly Cloudy

For Chennai, the forecast suggests partly cloudy skies over the next few days. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach around 38 to 39 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures may remain between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius. The combination of warm weather and high humidity is likely to make outdoor conditions uncomfortable, particularly during the afternoon hours.

Weather Situation Under Continuous Monitoring

Although rainfall is forecast to remain largely confined to the Western Ghats districts, the Regional Meteorological Centre will continue tracking atmospheric developments across the state. Any significant changes in weather conditions will be reflected in future updates as meteorologists monitor wind patterns and other influencing factors over the coming days.
