Weather – Tamil Nadu Braces for Heatwave and Scattered Rainfall Ahead

Weather – Tamil Nadu is expected to face a spell of persistent heat over the coming days, even as certain areas may receive intermittent rainfall, according to recent meteorological assessments.

Rising Temperatures Across Interior Districts

Weather officials have indicated that several interior regions of Tamil Nadu are likely to record temperatures above the seasonal average by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. This upward trend in temperature is expected to continue for the next few days, intensifying summer conditions across the state.

In Chennai, daytime temperatures are projected to remain between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels are also expected to persist, making the overall weather feel more oppressive for residents. Such conditions often increase discomfort, particularly during afternoon hours when both heat and moisture levels peak.

Rainfall Likely in Select Regions

While much of the state will continue to experience elevated temperatures, certain regions may see some relief in the form of rainfall. Meteorological forecasts suggest light to moderate showers in districts located along the Western Ghats, parts of the southern coastline, and delta regions.

These rainfall activities are expected to occur intermittently over the next three days. Though not widespread, they could help reduce temperatures locally and offer temporary comfort in affected areas.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

In addition to rainfall, isolated locations may witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph. Lightning activity is also likely in some areas.

Such weather events, although brief, could provide short-term relief from the prevailing heat. However, authorities advise caution during thunderstorms due to potential safety risks associated with strong winds and lightning strikes.

Atmospheric Factors Behind Weather Pattern

Experts attribute the current mix of intense heat and scattered rainfall to atmospheric changes over peninsular India. These conditions are contributing to both heat accumulation in inland areas and localized precipitation in others.

Such contrasting weather patterns are not uncommon during this time of the year, as shifting wind systems and moisture levels influence regional climates differently across districts.

Recent Heatwave Intensifies Concerns

On Monday, several locations across Tamil Nadu recorded unusually high temperatures, indicating a strong heatwave phase. Vellore registered the highest temperature at approximately 40.5 degrees Celsius.

Other regions, including Karur Paramathi, Erode, and Madurai Airport, reported temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius. Madurai city itself recorded around 39.5 degrees Celsius.

Districts such as Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, and Palayamkottai experienced temperatures nearing 39 degrees Celsius, while areas like Tirupattur, Salem, and parts of Tirunelveli recorded around 38.5 degrees Celsius. Coimbatore reported relatively lower temperatures at about 37.8 degrees Celsius.

Advisory Issued for Public Safety

With high temperatures expected to persist, authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions. People are advised to stay well-hydrated, avoid stepping out during peak sunlight hours, and reduce strenuous outdoor activities.

Special care is recommended for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions, as they are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Continuous Monitoring by Weather Officials

Meteorological departments are closely observing the evolving weather situation across the state. Both heatwave conditions and potential thunderstorm activity remain under watch.

Officials have emphasized the importance of public awareness and preparedness, urging local administrations and residents to remain cautious and responsive to weather updates in the coming days.
