Weather – Delhi Gets Relief as Rain and Dust Storm Follow Intense Heat
Weather – Residents of Delhi experienced a noticeable change in weather conditions on Tuesday evening as light rainfall, strong winds, and dust storms swept across several parts of the city. The sudden weather activity brought temporary relief from the intense heat that had dominated the national capital throughout the day. Earlier, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hotter days of the season.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Expected to Continue
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions are likely to remain unstable over the next few days. The department has forecast additional spells of rain and thunderstorms across the capital region. While these developments may provide intermittent relief, temperatures are still expected to stay high, with daytime readings likely to fluctuate between 41 and 45 degrees Celsius through June 11.
Meteorologists indicated that cloud formation and thunderstorm activity could increase during Wednesday afternoon and evening. The expected weather pattern includes lightning, gusty winds, and isolated rain showers across various districts of Delhi and nearby areas.
Strong Winds Accompany Evening Weather Change
The evening weather system that moved across the city brought more than just rainfall. Several areas witnessed powerful winds along with thick dust clouds, reducing visibility for a brief period. The IMD’s district-level nowcast suggested that parts of Delhi could experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Wind speeds were estimated to reach between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour in some locations, with occasional gusts touching nearly 90 kilometres per hour. Such conditions prompted authorities to closely monitor the situation and issue weather advisories for residents.
Alerts Issued Across Different Parts of Delhi
In response to the forecast, the weather department issued varying alert levels for different regions of the capital. An orange alert was announced for parts of Outer North Delhi, North West Delhi, North East Delhi, and adjoining localities. These areas were expected to receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds.
Meanwhile, several other districts were placed under a red alert due to the possibility of more severe weather conditions. The warnings were issued as a precautionary measure to help residents remain prepared for sudden changes in weather and possible disruptions caused by high-speed winds and lightning activity.
Forecast Suggests Continued Weather Fluctuations
The IMD has also predicted that light to moderate rainfall may continue on June 11 and June 12. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are likely in multiple parts of the city. Officials have advised people to stay updated with local weather bulletins and exercise caution during periods of intense wind or lightning.
Although the recent rainfall has offered short-term relief from the scorching heat, meteorologists believe that temperatures will continue to remain above normal levels for the coming days. The combination of high temperatures and intermittent storm activity is expected to keep weather conditions dynamic across the Delhi-NCR region.
