Weather – Delhi Experiences Unseasonably Hot Day as AI Dust Monitoring Begins
Weather –Delhi witnessed an unusually warm day on Monday as temperatures climbed well above the seasonal average, while the city administration introduced an advanced digital system aimed at strengthening oversight of dust pollution at large construction sites.

The national capital registered a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), placing it 3.1 degrees above the normal level for this time of year. The sharp rise marked a noticeable increase from Sunday’s high of 36.8 degrees Celsius, adding to the discomfort after several days of fluctuating weather conditions.
Temperatures Stay Above Seasonal Average
Data released by the IMD showed that Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather observatory, recorded the city’s highest official daytime temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius. Other monitoring stations also reported elevated readings, with Palam at 38 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road at 38.1 degrees Celsius, Ridge at 37.4 degrees Celsius and Ayanagar at 37.7 degrees Celsius.
Nighttime conditions also remained warmer than usual. Safdarjung reported a minimum temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius, nearly two degrees above normal. The minimum temperatures at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar stood at 26.8 degrees Celsius, 28.2 degrees Celsius, 24.3 degrees Celsius and 28.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Dry Conditions Continue Across the Capital
The weather department confirmed that none of the major observatories recorded rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm on Monday. Likewise, no precipitation was reported during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am, indicating that dry conditions continued across the city despite the monsoon season.
For Tuesday, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies over Delhi. The maximum temperature is expected to remain close to 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to settle around 27 degrees Celsius.
Delhi Government Rolls Out Upgraded Dust Portal
Alongside the weather developments, the Delhi government unveiled an upgraded digital platform designed to improve monitoring of construction-related dust pollution.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the enhanced Dust Pollution Control Self-Assessment web portal and its accompanying mobile application, developed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The government said the revamped system is intended to make regulatory compliance easier for construction agencies while improving transparency in enforcement and environmental monitoring.
AI Technology to Track Construction Sites
The newly introduced Dust Portal 2.0 will digitally monitor construction sites measuring 500 square yards or more throughout Delhi. The platform combines artificial intelligence, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, 360-degree pan-tilt-zoom cameras and air quality sensors that measure PM10 and PM2.5 particulate matter.
Officials said the portal is also equipped with AI-driven analytics capable of evaluating whether construction and demolition sites are following prescribed dust control measures. The technology is expected to provide authorities with real-time information, allowing quicker identification of potential violations and more efficient enforcement.
Government Focuses on Transparent Compliance
Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the integration of artificial intelligence and digital tools would simplify compliance procedures while making environmental monitoring more effective. She added that the initiative is intended to encourage construction agencies to actively contribute to reducing dust pollution in the capital.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa noted that the upgraded portal marks the first time all construction sites covering at least 500 square yards will be monitored through an AI-enabled system. According to the government, the initiative represents a significant step toward improving pollution management by combining technology with continuous oversight of large-scale construction activity.
