VietnamIndiaRelations – Vietnam President To Lam arrived in India on Tuesday for his first State Visit since taking office earlier this month, signaling another important step in the growing relationship between the two countries. The Vietnamese leader was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister Nityanand Rai, where he received an official reception marking the beginning of his multi-day visit.
Warm Welcome in Bihar Ahead of Delhi Meetings
Before reaching the national capital, President To Lam visited Gaya in Bihar, where he was received by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The state leader described the visit as a significant moment for both nations and expressed confidence that the diplomatic engagement would help strengthen bilateral cooperation across several sectors.
Officials accompanying the Vietnamese President highlighted the importance of cultural and economic exchanges between India and Vietnam. The visit is being viewed as part of broader efforts by both countries to deepen strategic coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the high-level engagement reflects the strong and steady relationship shared by New Delhi and Hanoi. According to officials, discussions during the visit are expected to focus on enhancing political ties, improving economic collaboration, and strengthening regional partnerships.
India and Vietnam have maintained close diplomatic relations for several years, with both countries supporting stronger connectivity and cooperation in Southeast Asia. Bilateral trade between the two nations has also witnessed steady growth in recent years, supported by regular government-level exchanges and business partnerships.
Ceremonial Reception Scheduled in New Delhi
President To Lam, who is also serving as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will remain in India until May 7. During his stay, he is scheduled to receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hold comprehensive discussions with the visiting leader on a wide range of regional and international issues. Diplomatic sources indicate that the talks may also include cooperation in defence manufacturing, digital technology, and supply chain development.
Senior government representatives from both countries are expected to participate in official meetings and delegation-level discussions over the next two days. Several agreements and collaborative initiatives may also be reviewed during the visit.
