UniversityRankings – The University of Delhi has recorded another year of progress in the latest QS World University Rankings 2027, reinforcing its position among India’s most respected institutions of higher learning. The ranking results, released on Thursday, show that the university has improved its global standing and continues to strengthen its reputation across key academic and research indicators.

Delhi University Moves Up in Global Rankings

According to Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the University of Delhi secured the 322nd position in the world rankings, an improvement from its 328th place in the previous edition. The university’s overall score also increased, reflecting advancements in multiple areas including academic performance, research output, sustainability initiatives, and graduate employability.

The latest achievement places Delhi University among the leading contributors to India’s growing presence in international higher education rankings. University officials described the improvement as a reflection of sustained efforts to enhance teaching standards, research quality, and global engagement.

Strong Performance Across Key Indicators

One of the most notable gains for Delhi University came in the Citations per Faculty category, a metric widely used to assess the influence and impact of research. The institution registered a significant jump in this area, indicating stronger research visibility and broader academic recognition worldwide.

The university also achieved substantial progress in Sustainability, highlighting ongoing efforts related to environmental responsibility, social impact, and sustainable campus practices. Improvements were also recorded in Employer Reputation, demonstrating increasing confidence among employers in the skills and capabilities of Delhi University graduates.

India Records Highest-Ever Representation

The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed thousands of institutions across the globe, with universities from more than 100 countries and territories earning places in the final list. India achieved its strongest representation to date, with 52 institutions featured in the rankings.

Education experts view this growth as evidence of the country’s expanding influence in global academia. Delhi University emerged as one of the institutions helping drive that international recognition through improvements in research, innovation, and academic quality.

Strong Standing Within India

Apart from its global achievements, Delhi University delivered impressive results in several national comparison indicators. The university secured a leading position in employment outcomes and performed strongly in sustainability, international research collaboration, and academic reputation.

Vice-Chancellor Credits Collective Effort

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh attributed the success to the combined contributions of faculty members, researchers, students, administrative staff, alumni, and other stakeholders. He said the latest ranking reflects the strength of the university’s academic ecosystem and its focus on excellence in education, innovation, research, sustainability, and community outreach.

He also emphasized that the institution would continue pursuing initiatives aimed at strengthening its international profile while contributing to national development through quality higher education.

JNU and Jamia Also Register Progress

Other major universities in the national capital also reported improvements in the QS World University Rankings 2027. Jawaharlal Nehru University improved its global position and maintained its reputation as a leading centre for research, social sciences, and international studies. The university remains among India’s most recognized institutions in global academic assessments.

Meanwhile, Jamia Millia Islamia posted a notable rise in the rankings, reaching the 686th position globally. The improvement places the university among the country’s top-ranked institutions and reflects its growing academic and research profile on the international stage.
