Strongest Global Performance by an Indian Institution

The new ranking places IIT Delhi among the world’s leading universities and matches the highest position ever attained by an Indian institution in the history of the QS World University Rankings. The achievement highlights the institute’s steady progress in enhancing academic quality, research output, and global recognition over recent years.

According to the ranking data, IIT Delhi has advanced significantly across several key evaluation parameters that contribute to overall institutional performance. These gains have helped the institute strengthen its reputation among international academic and professional communities.

Employer Reputation Shows Significant Improvement

One of the most notable improvements came in the Employer Reputation category, where IIT Delhi moved up 11 places to secure the 39th position worldwide. This indicator reflects the views of employers across the globe regarding universities that produce graduates equipped with the skills and knowledge required in the workforce.

The improvement suggests growing confidence among recruiters in the quality of education and training offered by the institute, reinforcing its reputation as a leading destination for aspiring engineers, scientists, and technology professionals.

Employment Outcomes Witness Major Rise

The institute also recorded a remarkable jump in the Employment Outcomes indicator, improving by 60 positions compared to the previous edition. This metric evaluates how effectively universities prepare students for successful careers and leadership roles after graduation.

The strong performance indicates that IIT Delhi continues to enhance opportunities for students by fostering industry engagement, practical learning experiences, and career-focused initiatives that support long-term professional success.

Research Impact Gains International Recognition

Another area of progress was the Citations per Faculty indicator, where the institute advanced by 26 places. This measure assesses the average number of academic citations received by research produced by faculty members and is widely regarded as an important indicator of research quality and influence.

The improvement reflects the growing global impact of research conducted at IIT Delhi and highlights the institute’s contribution to scientific and technological advancements across multiple disciplines.

Focus Remains on Education and Innovation

Commenting on the latest achievement, Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy, Dean of Planning and Head of the Ranking Cell at IIT Delhi, said the institute remains dedicated to providing high-quality and affordable technological education while expanding its international presence.

He noted that curriculum reforms, infrastructure development, and greater engagement with global academic communities are expected to further strengthen the institution in the years ahead. He also emphasized that rankings are viewed as a result of sustained efforts rather than an end goal in themselves.

Consistent Growth Over Four Years

The latest ranking continues a strong upward trend for IIT Delhi. Over the last four years, the institute has improved its global standing by 79 places, moving from 197th position in the QS World University Rankings 2024 to 118th in the 2027 edition.

Earlier this year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 also highlighted the institute’s academic strengths. Disciplines including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering were placed among the top 50 globally.

In addition, IIT Delhi secured the 36th position worldwide in the Engineering and Technology category, retaining its position as the highest-ranked Indian institution in the field.
