Treasury – BJP Questions Jharkhand Over Missing Rs 10,000 Crore Funds
Treasury – The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its criticism of the Jharkhand government, alleging a lack of transparency in connection with a reported Rs 10,000 crore discrepancy in the state treasury. The party has called for a clear explanation regarding the missing funds and has raised concerns about a possible cover-up.

BJP Raises Questions Over Missing Funds
Addressing reporters at the party’s state office in Ranchi, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo questioned whether the unaccounted Rs 10,000 crore is linked to an alleged treasury scam. He urged the state administration to provide a detailed account of the missing money, stating that the public deserves clarity on the matter.
According to Shah Deo, the issue has been widely discussed in the media, yet the government has not taken visible or decisive steps to resolve it. He argued that repeated announcements of new committees and Special Investigation Teams have not resulted in meaningful progress.
Allegations of Delayed Investigation
The BJP has accused the government of using procedural measures to delay the investigation. Shah Deo claimed that instead of taking direct action, authorities have continued to form multiple inquiry panels, which he described as an attempt to prolong the process rather than reach conclusions.
He further pointed out that no clear timeline has been provided for the ongoing investigations. This, he suggested, raises doubts about whether the case will be pursued with urgency or gradually sidelined.
Claims of Suppressed Inquiry Findings
Referring to an earlier inquiry, Shah Deo alleged that a committee led by Finance Department Deputy Secretary Jyoti Jha had identified serious irregularities during a visit to Bokaro. However, he claimed that the findings of this report were not made public.
He also mentioned reports indicating that around Rs 16 crore had been withdrawn under the name of the Bokaro Superintendent of Police, adding to the concerns surrounding the case. These claims, he said, highlight the need for a thorough and transparent probe.
Questions Over SIT Formation
The BJP has also expressed reservations about the structure of the Special Investigation Team set up by the Criminal Investigation Department. According to Shah Deo, the SIT is being led by an Inspector General associated with the Human Rights division, which he believes could affect the independence of the investigation.
He further alleged that the CID initiated action only after the issue gained media attention, suggesting that the response was reactive rather than proactive. He described such steps as insufficient to address the seriousness of the allegations.
Demand for Independent Probe
Emphasizing the scale of the issue, the BJP has called for the investigation to extend beyond lower-level officials. Shah Deo stated that any inquiry should also examine the role of senior individuals who may be involved.
The party has demanded that the case be handed over to central agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, to ensure impartiality and credibility. According to Shah Deo, an independent probe is essential to restore public trust and uncover the full extent of the matter.
Growing Political Pressure
The controversy has added to the political tensions in the state, with opposition leaders continuing to press for answers. As questions remain unresolved, the focus is now on how the Jharkhand government responds to the allegations and whether further action will be taken to clarify the situation.
