Traffic – Father Burns Son’s Motorcycle After Repeated Rule Violations
Traffic – A shocking incident unfolded in Visakhapatnam where a father, overwhelmed by frustration, set fire to his son’s motorcycle following a series of traffic violations and growing financial strain. The episode took place on Monday near Vepagunta, within the limits of the Pendurthi police station, drawing attention to the pressures faced by families dealing with reckless driving habits.

Repeated Violations Spark Family Tension
According to police officials, the man, who works as an auto driver and resides in Banta Colony, had purchased the motorcycle for his college-going son after much insistence. What was meant to support the young student’s mobility soon became a source of ongoing concern. The father reportedly grew increasingly worried as his son began ignoring traffic rules, frequently riding in an unsafe manner and spending long hours with friends on the road.
Authorities noted that the situation worsened after the young man was involved in a road accident earlier, which resulted in medical expenses of nearly Rs 1 lakh for the family. Despite this, the pattern of careless riding reportedly continued, leading to additional fines and warnings from traffic authorities.
Mounting Fines Add Financial Pressure
The situation reached a tipping point after a series of recent traffic challans. One penalty was issued for triple riding, while another cited the absence of a valid pollution certificate. These repeated fines added to the financial burden on the father, who was already struggling to manage household expenses.
On the day of the incident, the student had reportedly earned around Rs 300 through part-time catering work. He used part of this amount to refuel the motorcycle. However, during a routine traffic check later that day, he was fined again. Unable to pay the fine immediately, he contacted his father for help.
Immediate Trigger Leads to Extreme Action
In response, the father transferred Rs 150 online to settle part of the penalty. However, this incident appears to have intensified his frustration. According to local accounts, the father felt increasingly distressed over what he saw as repeated negligence by his son and the continuous financial strain caused by fines and penalties.
Later that day, in an apparent moment of anger, the father took the motorcycle away from their residential area. He then set the vehicle on fire, destroying it completely. The act was reportedly driven by a combination of emotional stress and a desire to prevent further misuse of the vehicle.
No Police Case Registered So Far
Despite the dramatic nature of the incident, police officials confirmed that no formal case has been registered at this time. As of now, the matter appears to have been treated as a domestic issue rather than a criminal offense. However, the incident has sparked conversations locally about road safety awareness and parental challenges in managing young drivers.
Broader Concerns Over Road Safety
This episode highlights a larger issue concerning traffic discipline among young riders. Authorities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, not only to avoid fines but also to prevent accidents and injuries. Families, too, often find themselves struggling to balance support and discipline when dealing with irresponsible behavior.
Experts suggest that consistent education on road safety and stricter enforcement of rules may help reduce such incidents. At the same time, open communication within families is seen as essential in addressing risky behavior before it escalates into more serious consequences.
