Prime Minister’s Message of Remembrance

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister recalled the tragic events of April 22, 2025, describing them as a moment that continues to weigh heavily on the country. He paid homage to the innocent lives lost and expressed deep sympathy for the families still coping with their loss.

He noted that the country stands united in both grief and determination, making it clear that acts of terror will not weaken India’s spirit. According to him, those responsible for such violence will never succeed in their intentions.

The Attack That Shocked the Nation

The incident in Pahalgam, located in south Kashmir, resulted in the deaths of 26 people, most of whom were tourists visiting the region. The attack sparked widespread anger and sorrow across the country, drawing attention to the continuing threat of terrorism in the region.

Families of the victims have since been navigating life after the tragedy, with many still seeking closure and justice. The incident remains one of the most painful reminders of the human cost of terror.

Military Response and Operation Sindoor

In the aftermath of the attack, India carried out a military operation on May 7 under Operation Sindoor. The mission targeted terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with the aim of dismantling networks linked to the attack.

The Indian Army reiterated its position through official statements, stressing that any act against the nation would be met with a firm and assured response. The message underscored a commitment to accountability and justice.

A day before the anniversary, the Army also conveyed that when limits of humanity are crossed, its response becomes decisive. The statement highlighted both preparedness and resolve, reinforcing the country’s stance against cross-border terrorism.

Heightened Security in Pahalgam

To mark the anniversary peacefully, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have increased security measures in and around Pahalgam. Additional personnel have been deployed, and surveillance has been intensified to ensure safety during commemorative events.

The observance is expected to see participation from political representatives, members of civil society, and families of those who lost their lives. Officials have taken steps to ensure that the gathering remains orderly and respectful.

Memorial Honours Victims

A memorial has been established in Pahalgam to honour the victims of the attack. Constructed from black marble, it carries the names of all 26 individuals who were killed, including 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator, Adil Shah.

Situated along the banks of the Lidder river, the memorial stands as a lasting tribute and a place for reflection. It symbolizes both remembrance and resilience, offering visitors a space to pay their respects.

As the country marks one year since the tragedy, the focus remains on honouring those who lost their lives while reaffirming a collective commitment to peace and security. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the importance of unity in the face of adversity and the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.
