Safety of Residents Remains the Primary Focus

Speaking at the Commissionerate Day parade at the Parade Ground, Sandhu took the ceremonial salute in his role as the Administrator of Delhi. He said the safety and security of the national capital must remain the highest priority for the police force.

The Lieutenant-Governor placed particular emphasis on the protection of women and children. He said policing should combine stronger enforcement with a people-friendly approach so that residents feel secure and confident while seeking help from authorities.

Public Cooperation Needed for Better Traffic Discipline

Sandhu also highlighted the need for improved traffic management across Delhi. He said stricter enforcement against road violations has become more visible in several parts of the city, but lasting improvement will require cooperation from the public.

He pointed to common violations such as driving on the wrong side, triple riding on two-wheelers and travelling without helmets. According to him, enforcement alone cannot reduce such offences unless residents also adopt safer driving habits and follow traffic rules voluntarily.

The Lieutenant-Governor said a change in public behaviour is necessary to make Delhi roads safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. He added that traffic discipline should be treated as a shared responsibility between enforcement agencies and citizens.

Promotions and Transfer Policy Discussed

On personnel matters, Sandhu assured Delhi Police staff that promotions would be handled in a timely manner. He also said efforts would be made to introduce a transparent and predictable transfer policy for officers and employees.

The remarks came as part of a broader discussion on improving human resource management within the force. A clear system for promotions and transfers, he said, can help personnel work with greater confidence and focus on their duties.

Support for Families of Martyrs

The Lieutenant-Governor called for new initiatives to provide stronger assistance to the families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. He suggested that corporate social responsibility funds could be used more effectively for welfare programmes aimed at supporting such families.

Sandhu also praised the growing participation of women in the Delhi Police. He specifically appreciated the Delhi Police Women Pipe and Brass Band, which performed during the event.

Crime Prevention and Technology Drive Results

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha said the force has seen major changes in recent years, particularly through a greater focus on crime prevention and technology-based policing. He said the impact of these efforts can be seen in the latest crime data.

According to Golchha, heinous crimes recorded in Delhi have fallen by 8 per cent compared with 2025. Cases registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have also declined by 12 per cent during the same period.

He added that motor vehicle theft and other theft cases, which are registered online, have reduced by 21 per cent. The commissioner said the force would continue using technology and preventive measures to improve public safety and reduce crime across the capital.
