Technology – Foundation Ceremony Planned for Google Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam
Technology – The groundwork for a major technology initiative in Andhra Pradesh is set to begin, as preparations have been completed for the foundation stone laying ceremony of a proposed Google Cloud India AI Hub Data Centre. The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at Tharluvada village in Anandapuram Mandal, located near Visakhapatnam.

Officials Review Preparations at Project Site
Ahead of the ceremony, Member of Parliament M. Sribharat visited the proposed site on Monday to assess readiness. He was joined by District In-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy and Member of Legislative Council Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao. The officials reviewed logistical arrangements and inspected the area where the project will be developed, ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place for the upcoming event.
During the visit, Sribharat emphasized the importance of the project, describing it as a major step toward strengthening the region’s technological capabilities. Local authorities have been coordinating efforts to facilitate smooth execution of the ceremony and initial development stages.
Significant Investment Expected to Boost State Economy
According to officials, the proposed data centre represents a substantial financial commitment, with an estimated investment of around ₹1.40 lakh crore by Google. The project is being viewed as one of the largest technology-driven investments in the state, reflecting growing interest from global companies in India’s digital infrastructure sector.
Sribharat noted that the initiative was made possible through coordinated efforts at both the state and central levels. He acknowledged the role of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh in advancing the proposal, along with support from the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Focus on Long-Term Technology Ecosystem Development
While the data centre itself may not generate a large number of direct operational jobs, officials believe its long-term impact could be far-reaching. The presence of such a facility is expected to encourage the growth of an integrated ecosystem centered on information technology and artificial intelligence.
Industry observers suggest that large-scale data infrastructure often acts as a catalyst for innovation and investment. With improved access to computing resources and digital services, startups and established firms alike may find new opportunities in the region.
Infrastructure and Connectivity to See Improvements
One of the key anticipated benefits of the project is the enhancement of digital infrastructure. The data centre is expected to contribute to faster and more reliable connectivity, which is essential for businesses operating in sectors such as banking, financial technology, and IT services.
Government officials indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding additional developments that could complement the data centre. These may include phased expansion plans and supporting infrastructure aimed at attracting further investment into Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas.
Potential to Attract Diverse Industry Investments
The establishment of the AI-focused data hub is likely to draw interest from a wide range of industries. Banks, fintech companies, and technology firms are among those expected to explore opportunities in the region once the facility becomes operational.
Sribharat expressed confidence that the project would have a multiplier effect on the local economy. By creating an environment conducive to digital innovation, the initiative could support business growth across multiple sectors and enhance Visakhapatnam’s position as an emerging technology hub.
A Step Toward Strengthening India’s Digital Future
As India continues to expand its digital capabilities, projects of this scale play an important role in shaping the country’s technological landscape. The proposed Google Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam reflects broader efforts to build advanced infrastructure that can support future demands in data processing and artificial intelligence.
With the foundation ceremony set to mark the beginning of construction, stakeholders are optimistic about the long-term benefits the project could bring to the state and beyond
