Security – Senior IPS Officer Takes Charge of CISF South Zone Operations

Security – A senior Indian Police Service officer is set to oversee critical security operations across southern India while Chhattisgarh also marks significant developments in infrastructure and healthcare administration.

Security cisf south zone operations

DIG Santosh Kumar Singh, a 2011-batch IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, has assumed an important leadership responsibility in the Central Industrial Security Force’s South Zone. Known for his work in conflict-prone areas and his understanding of institutional governance, Singh will now supervise security arrangements for several high-value installations spread across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and northern parts of Karnataka.

Key Role in Industrial Security Network

The new assignment places Singh in charge of protecting major public sector units, industrial facilities, mines, and other strategic establishments under CISF cover. The South Zone is considered one of the force’s most sensitive operational regions because it includes industries linked to energy production, mining activities, manufacturing, and national infrastructure.

Officials familiar with the deployment said the position demands a balanced approach involving field-level operational expertise as well as strong administrative coordination. The CISF continues to play a major role in safeguarding economic assets that are essential to India’s industrial growth and supply chains.

Singh has previously served in areas affected by Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh, where officers often face complex law-and-order situations. His experience in handling security challenges is expected to contribute to strengthening preparedness and coordination within the South Zone.

Fundari Bridge Changes Connectivity in Bastar Region

Meanwhile, a major infrastructure development in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division is expected to improve movement and security access in remote Maoist-affected areas. The nearly completed 648-metre-long Fundari bridge over the Indravati River is being viewed as a turning point for connectivity in Bijapur district and nearby regions.

For years, the Indravati River acted as a natural barrier separating several remote pockets of south Bastar, including areas linked to Abujhmad. The difficult terrain and limited access had created operational challenges for both civilians and security forces.

The bridge project, which received its work order on October 6, 2018, faced multiple difficulties during construction because of the region’s security environment. Authorities described the project as highly challenging due to the presence of Maoist activity in surrounding areas.

Once fully operational, the bridge is expected to reduce travel distance from district headquarters to remote villages by more than half. Officials believe the improved road link will help local residents travel more safely, particularly during the monsoon season when river crossings become difficult.

Apart from civilian movement, the new structure is also likely to improve the reach of government services and emergency response systems in interior areas of Bastar.

Chhattisgarh Revises Nursing Staff Designations

In another development, the Chhattisgarh government has announced revised official titles for nursing personnel working in the state healthcare system. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said the move was aimed at recognising the professional contribution of nurses and strengthening their institutional identity.

Under the updated nomenclature, the designation “staff nurse” will now be replaced with “nursing officer.” Similarly, “nursing sister” will be redesignated as “senior nursing officer.”

The state government stated that nursing professionals remain central to patient care and hospital services. Officials also acknowledged the role played by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic, when healthcare workers across the country handled critical medical responsibilities under difficult conditions.

The announcement has been viewed as part of broader efforts to improve recognition and morale within the healthcare sector. Nursing personnel continue to serve as one of the largest and most important sections of the public healthcare workforce in the state.
