Security – An exchange of gunfire broke out early Wednesday between security personnel and suspected Maoist fighters in the forested Tonto region of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand. The incident occurred during an ongoing search mission led by the COBRA 209 Battalion, which has been actively combing the dense Rutugutu forest area following intelligence inputs.
Operation Triggered by Intelligence Input
According to officials familiar with the development, the operation was launched after specific information suggested the presence of Maoist cadres in the region. While conducting a search deep inside the forest, security personnel noticed unusual movement, prompting them to approach cautiously. This led to a brief but intense exchange of fire between the two sides.
Authorities have not yet confirmed any casualties or material damage resulting from the encounter. However, security forces quickly moved to secure strategic positions in the area to prevent any possible escalation.
Security Tightened Across the Region
Following the incident, the entire area has been placed under heightened surveillance.
